Have you ever taken a class on how to do something? Maybe, like me, you’ve signed up for free webinars, watched an online video, and read an article or book with step-by-step instructions.
There’s no shortage of information to assist in various pursuits.
Need gardening 101? What about steps in fixing your clogged sink—fixing your spouse or defiant child? Starting a business? Want to finally keep New Year’s resolutions? Lose weight? Get healthy? Home remedies? Pick the winning lotto numbers? Curious how they do that? (And that is just about anything.)
The How-To Trap
I’ve completed how-to classes on writing a book and webinars for sales and marketing tips. My inbox receives weekly emails on interests in the publishing industry and inspirational devotions for Christian living.
While it’s good to be teachable and grow, none of us can learn how-to do everything and do it well. I have a natural bent toward particular gifts and talents, as do you.
We want to lean in. To engage and embrace our lives. But we often overstep our boundaries in life. As people, there are areas we don’t have a natural bent to accomplish. They are completely out of our wheelhouse.
Accustomed to gaining how-to knowledge, we often take the reins in issues where we make lousy guides.
No person can begin to fathom how to manage the entire universe or how to do God’s job. Because He’s God.
God Manages the Universe
“By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen” Hebrews 11:3, NLT.
What God creates, God manages. He is in control of all the works of His hands. Whew! Let the words from God’s Word take a load off your soul. I’m not in control. I’m not in charge. Friend, this is good news.
The Lord of hosts has sworn: “As I have planned, so shall it be, and as I have purposed, so shall it stand,” Isaiah 14:24, ESV.
God is CEO . . . are you in His seat?
We would not want God’s job. It’s too much pressure for any human to take on. Likened to a toddler managing our life or a corporation. Sounds silly. Yet, it’s the mental image God has when we occupy His seat.
God Manages Our Lives
With an Almighty God in control of the universe, He also knows best in managing my daily life on this earth. Makes perfect sense, right?
“We humans keep brainstorming options and plans, but God’s purpose prevails” Proverbs 19:21, MSG.
The amazing truth is God never had to sign up for classes or webinars on running the universe or our lives.
- He formed the earth and the heavens.
- He exists in all space. Information systems and digital space wouldn’t be able to contain His being.
- He reigns supreme over anything our eyes see and what is unseen. He is lifted on high.
Relax and be at peace today. Let the Lord work on your behalf. It’s His job and He knows how to accomplish it.
Prayer: Lord, I often want control over areas in my life. But I am helpless to accomplish the plans you have for me. I give You the reins and reign as You know best. May Your purpose prevail on the earth and in my life. Let me lean in to You—to Your Godly bent. Amen.
