Tell Me a Story: A Storyline Video by Karen Girl Friday

Story, Adobe SparkThere’s power in story. Our story matters. It not only gives us a voice, but brings significance to our life meaning. Sharing it with others releases us from the world’s attempt to mute our voice.

Unmuting Our Voice

You see, telling our story sucker punches the devil smack dab in the gut. And that’s my favorite part. He works to stifle our voice…to keep us from narrating our storyline. Yet, God’s not only the author, but He’s also the narrator, the editor, and the publisher.

Does it mean each chapter glitters and sparkles? No. But God uses every life experience including the hurt, heartache, and moments of joy for His purpose and His glory.

Often, we try to edit and rewrite our narrative and submit it to God for approval. Or, hide our version of the manuscript in a safe place hoping life turns out to match our revisions.

Embracing Our Story

The Lord began writing our story in the womb. He continues to oversee every part even when the enemy attempts evil against us. And the Lord offers healing when the world manages to wound us. God takes an active role in our life.

Recounting our narrative shows God's hand at work on every page. #blog Click To Tweet

We simply cannot share it without God’s goodness and mercy as the leading roles.

Living Storytellers

Rescued by God, we became living storytellers.

I will recount the steadfast love of the Lord,
    the praises of the Lord,
according to all that the Lord has granted us,
and the great goodness to the house of Israel
that he has granted them according to his compassion,
according to the abundance of his steadfast love.

Isaiah 63:7 ESV

In 2015, I recounted the steadfast love and goodness of the Lord in my life’s manuscript. I wrote the script under God’s direction, my husband filmed and put it together in a video.

Watch the video viewed nearly 10,000 times on Facebook or the YouTube video below.

How have you seen God’s goodness and mercy in your life? Tell us in the comments.

Sandy says:

So many chapters I probably would leave out of my story but God has them in there for a purpose, I know! This definitely has challenged me and caused me to reflect on my life and what my story is like. Thanks!

Karen says:

Sandy, thank you for sharing your thoughts. Yes, we often want to change things around in our story or hit delete. I’m so grateful that not only can we see when God’s hand at work, but He also continues to write our story under His bigger plan. Blessings!

Loved the video and the written paper format. Very different. I love stories and love telling stories. They remind us who we are and where we have been and our stories help others so much. Yes, we all have a story to tell and we need not be fearful or change it. Just tell it and glorify God.

Karen says:

Thank you, Theresa. I often cry when I watch the video again. God reminds me how powerful our stories are in bringing healing and in the sharing. Rescued by God, we’re each storytellers of His amazing grace and great love. Hallelujah! Blessings!

Rob Moore says:

I love the concept of sucker punch to Satan! And yes God has been writing our story from the beginning. At conception and even before, since His Word tells us that before He formed us, He knew us. What an incredible thought!

Thanks Karen!

Karen says:

Me too, Rob! Haha! I loathe the enemy more than he hates me. You are such a blessing and encouragement to me. Thank you for that! May we be witnesses as Isaiah says, “I will recount the steadfast love of the Lord.” I will…I will…I will. I will never be muted! Blessings!

Shara says:

Awesome Karen! I loved it! I had never seen the video until today. Love love love it! God is great!!

Karen says:

Shara, thank you so much sweet friend. God’s the author of our story. His hand is seen in every chapter and His love and goodness are written on each page. Praise His mighty and matchless name! Our God reigns! Praying you see His grace and mercy in every area of your life and the story still to be written! Blessings!

Loved this video so much! You are an inspiration, Karen!

Karen says:

Thank you, Sarah. My prayer has always been that it would bring people to the cross and show them how much God loves them. I so desire to recount the Lord’s goodness and mercy in my life. I know you do the same in your writings. Blessings!

I love love that Scripture you share to “recount the steadfast love of the Lord…” I will be praying and asking myself why I don’t do that more. I tend to be a forward-looking person, always envisioning what *could* be, not having eyes to see what’s already been given by Him.

Karen says:

Aimee, thanks for stopping by and commenting. Yes, I can relate too sister. 😉 Yet, when we recount our narrative, we see God’s hand at work. We cannot tell our story without witnessing to God’s overarching love, mercy, goodness, and grace. Praying for you and me. Blessings!

This is full of such wisdom! Love that you have a video with your post! Thank you for sharing your heart! 😊

Karen says:

Thank you, Jessie! Grateful God uses our stories in a powerful way. Blessings!

Denise Renae says:

Thanks for this encouragement and truth, Karen! This is something that each woman needs to be reminded of.

Karen says:

Denise, I appreciate your kind words, and for stopping by to comment. May we always recount the Lord’s great goodness, mercy, lovingkindness and grace as living testimonies for His glory. 🙂 Blessings!

Oh I just love this!! Recounting our story brings so much hope for the future and so much gratitude for how all the little pieces have been fit together for our good.

Karen says:

Thank you, Chris. So grateful the Lord uses our voice and our stories to display His-story and His glory. Blessings!

Lisa says:

I’m just starting to speak and tell my story. Some parts I’m not ready to tell, but God is preparing the way! Loved your video!

Karen says:

Thank you, Lisa. Yes, the Lord will help you find your voice to tell your story in His timing and for His glory. Blessings!

Meg Gemelli says:

Oh, my heart. That video! It’s such a beautiful story. I’m so thankful that you listened to His call. Keep it up, Karen. Women are desperate for these truths and for His inspiration through your ministry. Beautiful. Xoxo
