12 Comforting Truths During Mike’s Hospital Stay

Journaling is therapy for me. And during certain seasons of life, it’s a lifeline to draw me closer to the Lord in the same stroke of the pen. So it made sense to journal and meditate on God’s comforting truths during Mike’s hospital stay.
As most of you know, Mike was in the hospital for 6 weeks, most of which he spent in ICU.
I describe it as hard, scary, exhausting, emotional, grueling, mentally challenging, prayerful, and more.
So, conveying my thoughts on paper became a lifeline for me once again.
Let’s look at 12 of these comforting truths.
Hospital Stay
(1.) When life’s disappointments attempt to become my unwelcome friend, I remember Jesus calls me friend (John 15:15). If I visualize Christ as my best friend, it comforts me that I am never alone, always have someone to talk to, and have a shoulder to lean on. Thank you, Jesus!
(2.) I must cling to the only sure hope in the darkness. Jesus. “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” John 1:5 ESV.
(3.) Lord, place the cross and the blood of Jesus between me and the enemy, and between me and difficult circumstances. There’s nothing Your redemptive blood doesn’t cover. And there’s nothing it can’t redeem.
This prayer has changed my life and perspective.
Prayers and Promises
(4.) I’m so thankful for the power of prayer: mountains still move, seas still part, manna still rains from heaven, and because God can raise the dead, ashes turn to beauty again.
And oh how we experienced so many miracles and provision during Mike’s hospital stay.

Even if the world seems to stop spinning. Even if dark clouds seem to hijack sunny days. And even if life seems void of another sunrise or sunset. The Son holds the world and me in His hands (Psalm 95:4). The Son shines His face on me and gives me peace (Numbers 6:25:-26). And the Son rises with healing in His wings and with new mercies every morning (Malachi 4:4, Lamentations 3:22-23).

Wow, how much comfort this brought me during all those weeks.
Comforting Truths – Hospital Stay
(6.) God’s always waiting with open arms. There’s no better, safer, or stronger arms than the arms of the Almighty. No other more comforting arms than His. Many times during these 6 weeks of hospital stay I imagined running to my heavenly Father’s arms of comfort and safety from this life storm.
(7.) Sometimes I’m holding onto everything but Jesus. When I release the hurt, the pain, the fear, and what-ifs, then my hands and heart are open and free to hold onto the One who holds me.
Strength and Restoration
(8.) The Lord is my strength, my song, my salvation. The LORD is a Warrior! MY warrior! (Exodus 15:2-3)
(9.) Lord, I’m claiming a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit, that You may be glorified (Isaiah 61:3).
(10.) In Joel 2:25, the Lord promised to restore the years the locusts had eaten. And if you know the devastating damage caused by locusts. And how they consume everything in their path, any form of life and vegetation. If God can restore that kind of damage and death and nothingness back to life and wholeness, He can do it in my life.
Goodness and Trust – Hospital Stay
(11.) God IS a good, good Father and I am confident goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life (Psalm 23:6). Lord, as I walk through a valley, help me to turn and see the footprints of goodness and mercy behind me every step of the way.
(12.) I trust You, Lord, to write and rewrite my story for Your glory. Even from the valleys, one day there will be a story of praise to share, a song of victory to sing!

Share on XMike and I sure have a story of praise to share and a song of victory to sing. He continues to recover at home and we are grateful.

I hope and pray you have a story of praise to share and song of victory to sing as an overcomer in Christ.

Such an inspiration, Karen! Many would become buried under the difficulties of those weeks–the exhaustion, challenges, emotional upheaval, uncertainty, etc. Instead, you turned your attention to what you knew about God and what you saw God doing. Instead of experiencing discouragement, you experienced God’s comfort, proving that he IS our compassionate, attentive heavenly Father!
