What Big Eyes You Have! God Sees Me

Eyes, Adobe SparkThis is for you.

The teen girl who feels invisible. A mom surrounded by loneliness. The woman who wonders if anyone cares. The man struggling with meaning.

Those touched by hopelessness. Souls caught in the pit of despair. The lost who don’t believe they can be found.

To everyone who questions God’s existence or love.

Or, if you wonder. Is God there? Does He know? Does He see?

Little Red Riding Hood’s wolf in disguise possessed big eyes. “The better to see you with,” he said. But his eyes don’t compare to the Lord’s eyes which are vast, keen, and aware.

The God Who Sees

We find a story of the God who sees in Genesis 16. Childless, Sarai devises a plan for her servant Hagar to conceive her husband’s child. Hagar obliges, but Sarai regrets her scheme and deals harshly with Hagar.

So Hagar flees the scene. Alone in the wilderness, she encounters an angel of the Lord who tells her she will bear a son, her offspring will be multiplied, and to return and submit to her mistress. Within this narrative, Hagar recognized a powerful truth about God. He’s a God who sees.

“So she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, ‘You are a God of seeing,’ for she said, ‘Truly here I have seen him who looks after me’” Genesis 16:13 ESV.

“For the eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the earth so that He may support those whose heart is completely His” 2 Chronicles 16:9a AMP.

God’s eyesight is omnipresent. To and fro references a constant movement—backward and forward, side to side.

There’s no place to escape God’s sight. He found Hagar in her wilderness and finds us in ours.

And the Lord’s eyes set their sights on a mission to support us. He undergirds us in all of life’s plans, schemes, and ordeals. Our support comes from the eyes and heart of the Almighty. Especially in those instances when we flee the scene because the ordeal is too much to handle.

We find comfort in the fact that God sees. The Lord is everywhere—all the time. He sees us. The Lord sees all things. His eyes are in a continual state of motion. He’s the God who sees me.

Alone in the wilderness, Hagar saw the God who looked after her. He’s the God who cares for us when we lose our way and think no one cares. The Lord always knows where we came from and where we’re going. (See Genesis 16:8.)

Like Sarai, when I grow weary waiting on God, I devise my own plan or scheme. And I take matters into my own hands—more than I care to admit. But will I ever learn? Important life decisions belong in the hands of a higher power.

God’s eyes search with specific intent to support those with hearts completely His. Belonging wholly to the Holy One. Giving unadulterated worship to the Mighty King.

A complete heart for God = downright, unmitigated, untempered and utter devotion to Him over people and things.

God cares for us and wants our hearts to be completely His. He wants to devise our life’s plans. The heavenly Father desires that we submit to His will, expect Him to be visible in our lonely places, give Him authority to reign supreme, and find our hope in Christ alone.

No matter how I feel, I'm never alone or invisible. God’s there and He sees me. #God Click To Tweet

You’re not invisible or alone. You’re cared for and have meaning in life. You can be found by the hope-giver.

Is there a time you knew God saw you in the wilderness and took care of you? Share in the comments.

Oh Karen how this spoke to me today. All my life I have been a “loner.” Even when others were all around me, I felt as though I were all alone. But I understand more and more what Jesus said, I will never leave you or forsake you, I am with you.

I’m retired. I live 4 1/2 hours away from my family. Of course I have my husband, Bob. But my days are spent alone it’s quite and peaceful, to much so sometimes…for the past four years I’ve cried many tears, “God why have you brought me to this wilderness?” As time as gone by I’ve come to realize it was to have all to himself…this wilderness experience has taught me to seek more of him…and Oh the joys and revelations he has given me I would not trade for anything…Yes, God sees…even when we sleep he is watching…and preparing and loving us, so that we will seek more of him…My mom used to say a little poem…in the valley my heart is low but in the valley the flowers grow…

Karen says:

Marla, thanks sweet friend for stopping by my blog today. Yes, your words resonate in my spirit with the same experiences and feelings. Just the writing life itself is often one of being a loner. So grateful, we’re not invisible or alone. We’re cared for and have meaning in life. And the hope-giver found us right where we were. Blessings!

Thank you for reminding me that He is watching and protecting me at all times regardless of what I am going through. I am not alone and He has a plan.

Desiree

Karen says:

Desiree, I appreciate you reading and commenting on this post. And, Amen! God has a plan and we can trust He’s there in the midst of everything we go through. Grateful He finds us in the wilderness and looks after us so tenderly. Blessings!

Karen, the story of Hagar’s is one of my favorites for the very reasons you list. I did a little study on the names of the Lord and was so taken with the name El Roi, Hebrew for the God who sees me. So beautiful and comforting.
Thanks for sharing.

Karen says:

Amen, Beckie! I love the Hebrew name, El Roi. When I think back over my life, the Lord showed me personal research He wants me to realize. Was God there? Yes! Did He know? Yes! And did He see? Yes! The answer’s always, “Yes.” That’s all we need to know. Thanks for commenting! Blessings!

Alyson says:

Beautiful post and wonderful reminder! Oh, how I want that complete heart of downright, unmitigated, untempered and utter devotion to Him over people and things. Let it be, Lord!

Karen says:

Thanks so much, Alyson. Me too! God cares for us and wants our hearts to be completely His. He wants to devise our life’s plans. The heavenly Father desires that we submit to His will, expect Him to be visible in our lonely places, give Him authority to reign supreme, and find our hope in Christ alone. Blessings!

Jerralea says:

I love 2 Chronicles 16:9 – the idea of God searching for someone to bless! I’m waving my arms wildly, “Here I am, Lord, bless me!”

Karen says:

Jerralea, Amen! Love the mental image your words just gave me. Love it! The key is a whole heart devoted to Him to receive that full promise. 2 Chronicles 16:9 is my life verse. I used to hear people talk about having a life verse, so I asked the Lord for one in my twenties and this is what He gave me. Thanks for stopping by and commenting! Blessings!

Maree Dee says:

Thank you – I love the reminder that I am not alone. I am so glad no matter where I wander God can find me. When my children are far away and hurting I find comfort in knowing he is with them.

Blessings,

Maree

Karen says:

Yes, Maree Dee. So true. Grateful the Lord is always with us, He knows what we are going through, and He sees us. Never invisible and never alone. Blessings! 🙂

Kaitlin says:

Absolutely beautiful post! It’s so amazing that the God of the universe, who has His eye on every soul, still pays attention to the details of our lives. It’s in those sweet “coincidental” moments when we realize how intimately God sees and knows us. It’s such a joy! Thank you for this wonderful reminder today 🙂

Karen says:

Kaitlin, thanks for stopping by and commenting. Yes, Amen! He intimately pays attention to us. No matter how we feel, we are never alone or invisible. God’s there and He sees us…always. Blessings!

Kristi Woods says:

Thank God His eyes are vast, keen, and aware. Encouraging post that hits the spot for many, Karen. We aren’t alone. His eyes see us.

Karen says:

Thanks, Kristi! Yes, He truly is a God of seeing and looks after us in the wilderness and every place we find ourselves in. Blessings!

colleen says:

I cant tell you how many times I’ve taken things into my own hands when I’ve gotten tired of waiting for God. You’d think I’d learn by now that His plans are always so much better than mine!
Thanks for the reminder that He sees me even when I am waiting and think He doesn’t.
Colleen

Karen says:

Me too, Colleen. And I’m still a work in progress. Yet, even when we take over God’s job, He tenderly watches over us and sees us in the middle of the mess we made. Oh, Lord, give us hearts that are completely yours! Thanks for stopping by! Blessings!

Ariel says:

I definitely know how it is when you’re waiting and praying for something and it’s “taking so long” that you start to wonder if God is even listening to you. But the honest truth is that He is. He is still there. Even if we are too blinded by our pain to see Him!

Karen says:

Amen, Ariel. I agree with your words, the pain often blinds us. Yet, alone in the wilderness, Hagar saw the God who looked after her. He’s the God who cares for us when we lose our way and think no one cares or even when we’re blind to His presence with us. Thank you, Lord! Ariel, grateful you visited today.
