Formula for Living Water—H20

IMG_4918“Water, water, everywhere…”

There were days and nights,
water was the only thing in sight.
When the ship was out to sea,
as far as our eyes could see.

A family cruise to the Bahamas was the perfect way to celebrate our daughter graduating from college and son graduating high school the same spring. While I enjoyed cruising the ocean, I was glad to get my feet firmly planted back on land—at our ports of call and when the cruise was over.

“Water, water, everywhere, Nor any drop to drink.” Lines from “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner,” by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. The sailor is out to sea, surrounded by water on every side, none suited for drinking.

Water. We need a daily supply. Take it for granted until we don’t have it. We can’t live without it—literally. Life cannot be sustained without water—living water. The earth cannot support living plants or vegetation without water.

Water has cleansing properties.

“Wash up before dinner,” a line you may have said or heard on a movie. Simply to wash your hands, sometimes face, and get cleaned up before coming to the dinner table.

We can be physically clean—spiritually clean.

“Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? Who shall stand in his holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart…” Psalm 24:3-4

Jesus spiritually cleanses us—clean hands and a clean, pure heart.

Spiritual life comes through living water—a spiritual cleansing.

Jesus offers us spiritual life. Eternal life. Living water.

“Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty forever. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4: 13:-14

Speaking to a Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well—Jesus offers living water. The woman came to draw a daily supply of water. Water for drinking, cleansing, cooking, and many of the same uses we need it for today. The plot of land and the well had been owned by Jacob. Jacob, his sons, and his livestock drank from the well (John 4:12).

The well of living water belongs to the Lord. Christ ownership of the well gives us rights to the well water—as his sons and daughters to drink at the well. To go to the well for our daily supply. For sustaining life. For cleansing…

  • Clean Hands
  • Pure Hearts
  • Christ Ownership

H2O. The molecular formula for water.

The Lord’s water supply will quench our spiritual thirst and cleanse us—daily—forever.

The Lord’s formula for living water—H2O!
