How God Set Eternity in Our Hearts: 10 Scriptures

How God Set Eternity in Our Hearts: 10 Scriptures

As Easter approaches, we remember the crucifixtion of Jesus on the cross and celebrate the risen Savior. So it’s a good time to consider how God set eternity in our hearts (Ecclesiastes 3:11).

Before I met Jesus as Savior and Lord at sixteen, eternity wasn’t something I thought about. But salvation scriptures show us how God set eternity in our hearts from the beginning.

But as I understood God’s story in sending Jesus, His Son, to die for me, eternity became a vital part of my God-story.

Because according to the Bible, the gospel message is the foundation of these main essentials:

Jesus. The Savior who loves us and takes away the sins of the world.

Salvation. Eternal life provided through the bloodshed of Jesus.

Eternity. Spiritual life after this physical life in either heaven or hell.

So let’s look at a list of scriptures from the Bible that show us our need for salvation, the gift of eternal life, and how this gift shows us how God set eternity in our hearts from the beginning.

Before I met Jesus as Savior and Lord at sixteen, eternity wasn't something I thought about. But salvation scriptures show us how God set eternity in our hearts from the beginning. Share on X

God Set Eternity in Us

(1.) “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” John 3:16-17 (ESV)

(2.) “She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21 (ESV)

(3.) “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23 (ESV)

(4.) “The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23 (ESV)

(5.) “But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 (ESV)

(6.) “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.” Romans 10:9-10 (ESV)

I’ve heard sin explained as missing the mark of God, falling short of the holiness of God or not conforming to God’s laws and ways. Read, Don Stewart :: What Is Sin?, Blue Letter Bible.

But God loved us still and sent Jesus to take our sins on Himself on the cross and provide the blood sacrifice to save us, to cover our sin.

Eternal Life – God Set Eternity

(7.) “And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12 (ESV)

(8.) Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6 (ESV)

(9.) “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9 (ESV)

(10.) “Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.” 1 Corinthians 15:4 (ESV)

Believing that Jesus died for our sins, rose from the dead and confessing Him as Lord of our life, saves us from spiritual death, giving us salvation, eternal life in Christ.

Salvation prayer:

God, Thank you for loving me. Please forgive me for my sins. I believe Jesus Christ died to give me eternal life. Thank You for Your mercy and grace, and for the gift salvation. I accept Jesus as Lord and invite Him to live and reign in my heart and life. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

So good! I was raised in the church, baptized and confirmed, but as an adult distinctly remembering choosing Jesus afresh… and later distinctly remember the day I chose to make Jesus the Lord of my life. It IS a choice, and I know I’ve chosen the right path. Praise God! He is my savior!

God is so gracious! Your inspiring message reminds me how much He seeks for us and makes a way for us- even to the point of putting eternity in our hearts. God, You’re so good! Thank you for this beautiful message, Karen.
