Spiritual Vision That Sees God’s Faithfulness

Growing up, my vision was always great, until it wasn’t. Years ago, I lost distance vision from working at a computer for my job. An eye doctor explained how vision we no longer use, we lose.
Our eyes make the adjustment, Oh this is the distance you’re going to see. Now I’m near sighted and have glasses for when I need to see far away.
Often, the same holds true in spiritual vision. We wish we could see what God’s doing in our life—how He’s working for our good. And like the saying goes, Hindsight is 20/20.
So we lose spiritual vision because we fail to use it, we fail to trust God is God and on His throne.
And we become near sighted, only putting our faith in God when we can actually see His works come to fruition.
But the people mentioned in the Hall of Faith, Hebrews 11, believed God would fulfill His promises even though many of them never “saw” these promises come to pass.
“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1 (NIV)
“Assurance about what we do not see” is the hardest part.
Maybe I can’t see things at a distance, but my faith eyes can have full assurance in God for on down the road and into the future.

Spiritual hindsight is how I’ve learned to trust God. And it’s always 20/20.
“If you have 20/100 vision, it means that you must be as close as 20 feet to see what a person with normal vision can see at 100 feet. Having 20/20 vision does not necessarily mean you have perfect vision. 20/20 vision only indicates the sharpness or clarity of vision at a distance.” (Google)
Even though I’ve lost my vision at a distance, I pray not to lose my spiritual vision at a distance. I want to believe in the Lord’s ability and power and goodness for me.
Because in spiritual hindsight, my faith vision grows to sharper clarity. Since I’m now at a distance where I can see God’s faithfulness through the entire process.
Spiritual hindsight is 20/20 when we stop and take the time to look back at what God has done and these steps for V-I-S-I-O-N.

V – View everything through a spiritual lens.
“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:18 (NIV)
Does our view have an eternal perspective?
I – Immerse our mind in the Bible: Spiritual vision.
Diving deep into the Scriptures helps us have spiritual hindsight more than anything else. We cling to God’s truth.
“This is the covenant I will establish with the people of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.” Hebrews 8:10 (NIV)
S – See with faith eyes.
“For we live by faith, not by sight.” 2 Corinthians 5:7 (NIV)
The quickest way to lose heart is to look at our circumstances without seeing God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Because they are still with us. They know all, see all, and have control of all.
Also, the Lord is always working behind the scenes on our behalf.
Spiritual hindsight helps us trust God and our faith vision grows to sharper clarity when we look back at what God has done. Share on XI – Inventory our blessings: Spiritual vision.
When we take stock of what God has done and given to us, it blows us away. We are in awe.
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us IN Christ with EVERY spiritual blessing in the heavenly places,” Ephesians 1:3 (ESV, emphasis mine)
O – Open our eyes to look for God—wide open.
Let’s keep our spiritual eyes wide open for God, God’s works, and signs of His presence. And for who He is.
God: the one true God, living, Creator, Holy, sovereign, in control, majestic, Almighty, Love, Judge, Most High, reigning King, Light, magnificent, good, and merciful.
N – Notice the small and wonderful parts of life: Spiritual vision.
Sometimes we overlook God’s creation and the parts of life we may take for granted. Like breath (we’re alive), grace, love, family, pets, and friends. And celebrations: weddings, births, graduations, salvation (ours and our loved ones), birthdays, all the seasons of creation, and so much more.
Have you experienced spiritual hindsight? Which step of V-I-S-I-O-N stood out to you?
Spiritual hindsight is always 20/20 since I’m now at a distance where I can see God’s faithfulness through the entire process. Share on X

Love the post! May I never lose my spiritual vision.
Thank you, Tina. Let’s keep our spiritual eyes wide open for God, God’s works, and signs of His presence. And for who He is.
I’ve been nearsighted pretty much all of my life, but contact lenses have given me physical vision. But the most important vision we can have is spiritual. I loved your examples here, Karen. May we all walk by faith and not by sight. Blessings!
Hey Martha, I don’t need contact lenses, but I do need glasses to see at a distance. If I’m driving and need to see road signs before it’s too late. 🙂 And I pay to never lose my spiritual vision and to maintain my spiritual hindsight confident in God’s works and faithfulness! God bless!
The vision acrostic is a great reminder to improve our spiritual vision by trusting God, claiming His Word, and remembering what He has done. One thing that helps me remember His faithfulness is keeping a gratitude journal of blessings, answered prayer, and how He has revealed Himself even on an ordinary day but sometimes in an extraordinary way. God amazingly loves and cares for us.
Susan, I like the gratitude journal idea. It definitely helps us look back and see and know who faithful is our God. Love this, “…how He has revealed Himself even on an ordinary day but sometimes in an extraordinary way.” Yes! Thanks for sharing and God bless.
Sometimes we want to see what is in the future. I’m thankful God knows His plans for us and His plans are always best. He knows when we need to experience knowing what will happen and He also knows when we must wait. We must have faith and trust in God. Have a blessed weekend! 🙂
Agree wholeheartedly, Melissa. We can’t always see on up ahead, but that’s best for us if the Father wants us to trust His heart and plan for us regardless of what we can see or can’t see…understand. God bless!

Amen amen! I want to see the world only through my Father’s eyes. I pray I can witness so that all may see and know His truth and saving grace.
Yes, Jessica. I like how you said see the world through our Father’s eyes. And we need to see ourselves through His eyes. For that is who we truly are. God bless.
Karen, this is a powerful message! I need reminders to reset my eyes on Jesus daily. And you’re right, anything we don’t use, grows weaker. Holy Spirit, strengthen my spiritual vision. I want to see Jesus!
I want to see Jesus, too, Melissa. May we see Jesus high and lifted up every day! Praise God!
