The Nail-Scarred Hands That Hold You

The Nail-Scarred Hands That Hold You

The same hands that created the world and hold it in the palms of His hands, also hold you with His holy nail-scarred hands.

Most of us are familiar with the song, He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands.

I’ve always loved the melody and celebrated the powerful lyrics. Because I believe He does indeed hold the world in His hands.

And the Bible confirms this.

“In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also.” Psalm 95:4 (ESV)

“My own hand laid the foundations of the earth, and my right hand spread out the heavens.” Isaiah 48:13a (NIV)

“Of old you laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands.” Psalm 102:25 (ESV)

And on a more personal level, the Lord’s nail-scarred hands hold us.

Even if the world seems to stop spinning. Even if dark clouds seem to hijack sunny days. And even if life seems void of another sunrise or sunset. The Son holds the world and me in His hands.

So let’s look at how Jesus’ hands H-O-L-D His people.

H – Helping Hands Hold You

“For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, “Fear not, I am the one who helps you.” Isaiah 41:13 (ESV)

The Lord cares, protects, and supports us.

Like a warm hug from a family member or a supporting embrace during hard times from a friend, His nail-scarred hands hold me and you.

We have nothing to fear. Instead, the Lord assures us His helping hands hold onto us. This truth brings me comfort and peace.

O – Overcoming Hands

The Nail-Scarred Hands That Hold You

In a spiritual battle, the enemy holds no power over me. Satan is not God’s equal, he is powerless before the Almighty who fights for me and holds me with His overcoming hands.

Jesus overcomes evil with righteousness. His nail-scarred hands are Holy. Christ overcame death when He rose from the grave. And even when we have trouble in the world, Jesus overcomes the world. (John 16:33)

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10 (ESV)

L – Loving Hands Hold You

The nail-scarred hands of Jesus lovingly hold us through difficult seasons. They guide us along life’s journey no matter what we face.

Although we may fall—stumble over life’s potholes—the Lord upholds us. (Psalm 37:24)

Even if others abandon us, the Lord holds us close. (Psalm 27:10)

The Lord always leads us and hold us, His presence with us all the time. David said wherever he was, “your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.” Psalm 139:10 (NIV)

The Lord loves us so much, He engraved us on the palms of His hands, never forgetting us or leaving us. But He holds us securely.

“Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands.” Isaiah 49:16a (ESV)

D – Delivering Hands

Jesus described us as sheep and Himself as the Shepherd. “I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.” John 10:28 (ESV)

Jesus nail-scarred hands delivered us from eternal death. We are held by God’s grace provided through His Son on Calvary’s cross.

“But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5 (NIV)

I pray this post has brought you comfort and peace in knowing Jesus’ nail-scarred hands are:

Helping hands that hold you.

Overcoming hands that hold you.

Loving hands that hold you.

Delivering hands that hold you.
