Though None Go With Me: Move on With Jesus

Though None Go With Me: Move on With Jesus

Though none go with me. Not all people will stand by you…believe in your dreams or calling. Move on with Jesus.

I recently finished a 30-day devotional by a writing friend, Dr. O’Shea Lowery, Lord, Please Help Me: God’s Truth & Light for Dark Times.

And I thoroughly enjoyed each devotion and the practical application to my life. So I’m sharing an excerpt this week from one of the devotions.

Though None Go With Me

“As a result of this many of His disciples withdrew and were not walking with Him anymore. So Jesus said to the twelve, ‘You do not want to go away also, do you?'” John 6:66-67 (NASB 1995)

God is bringing all of His children to their very own personal Promised Land—a place where He has assigned us to work and carry out His kingdom agenda.

…while journeying toward these ordained places, seasons may occur in which we find ourselves traveling alone—not aloof from God but from those to who we wished would have accompanied us. The guestion is, will we allow these moments to halt us in our journeys, or will we continue to follow Jesus?

David was the king of Israel, both blessed and anointed. Yet, on one particular day, David found himself fleeing for his life—not from an enemy or even a stranger but from Absalom, his very own son. David had to leave behind his home, his throne, and all that he loved. (See 2 Samuel 15:13-18)

Shea reminds us how we all experience those times in our lives when people who we trusted and loved rejected and betrayed us. And also times God had to step in and purposefully remove acquaintances from our lives who were unsafe or unhealthy.

Not All People

We experience these hard times. But here are 3 things from Dr. Lowery to remember:

(1.) Not all people will stand by you when the going gets tough.

Indeed, some may walk away. But when this happens, you must move on with Jesus. Do not allow any bitterness to take root in your soul. What you may deem as rejection may literally be God’s protection.

(2.) Not all people will believe in your dream, your calling, or even the mission God has called you to undertake.

Do not get stuck looking over your shoulder, desiring certain individuals to believe in you or to join you in your work. Keep moving on with Jesus. Trust the Lord to place in your life the people He wants to help you, encourage you, and be involved with what He is calling you to do.

(3.) God sees the bigger picture.

A purpose exists in what you are going through. God knows what He is going to do in and through the circumstances He is allowing in your life. Even those betrayals and rejections He will use to make you more like HIs Son, Jesus. Trust Him; He will bring beauty from ashes.

Though None Go: God’s Faithfulness

David understood that God was his shield, his glory and the One who lifted his head…that God was faithfull while others proved faithless. (See Psalm 3:1-8 by David)

The same holds true for us today. Not everyone will be for you or stand by you. However, God will. Always…that is all that should ever matter.

“Simon Peter answered Him, ‘Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life. We have believed and have come to know that You are the Holy One of God.'” John 6:68-69 (NASB 1995)

Thanks so much, Karen, for introducing us to Dr. O’Shea and her amazing devotional here today. I will be sure to order it. Blessngs!

Karen says:

Appreciate your comment, Martha. Not all people will stand by us when the going gets tough. But we move on with Jesus. God bless!

Daniel L. Spencer says:

By the grace of God (through Christ) Truth. So Essentially, Poignantly, Sufficiently, and Adeptly Real…Yes and Amen.

Karen says:

God bless, Daniel. “God is bringing all of His children to their very own personal Promised Land—a place where He has assigned us to work and carry out His kingdom agenda.”

Dr O’Shea offered so much encouragement. Thanks for sharing her wonderful words Karen.

Karen says:

I thought so too, Yvonne. It’s one of my favorite devotions in the book. “God is bringing all of His children to their very own personal Promised Land—a place where He has assigned us to work and carry out His kingdom agenda.”

James Millary says:

Thanks for the spiritual article Karen. May God bless you and keep you safe.

Karen says:

God bless you, James.

Amen. Move on with Jesus. I love this! Have a blessed weekend! 🙂

Karen says:

Thanks, Melissa, Dr. Lowery has a great perspective on this. God bless!

Jessica Brodie says:

I love that point: Do not get stuck looking over your shoulder, desiring certain individuals to believe in you or to join you in your work. Keep moving on with Jesus.

We have different paths. But we have to walk them, following the way the Lord points, without worrying whether anyone else is there with us!

Karen says:

I love that too, Jessica. It’s so easy to get caught up in wanting and hoping others believe in our callings, and while it’s nice, it’s not necessary as we follow Jesus whole-heartedly.

Thank you for this encouraging message. Jesus said the path is narrow and few will find it. We cannot expect the whole world to love us when it didn’t love Jesus. But God is with us to the end.

Karen says:

So true, Melissa. I pray to stay on the narrow path and never turn back. I’m thankful for this message in Shae’s devotional. God bless!

Lynn Simpson says:

“Keep moving on with Jesus.” I love that. It can be tough to keep on going when we feel alone, however we can trust that God’s plan will prevail. There have been seasons in my life where I had plenty of people alongside me, and other times when I have felt alone in my endeavours. Yet, never truly alone, as Jesus is with us always. And I was drawn to this verse today: “Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of age.” Matthew 28:20

Karen says:

Lynn, thanks for sharing your experience. I’m also grateful the Lord is always with us. We count on Him to walk shoulder to shoulder with us in our callings and dreams. God bless!
