20 Amazing Quotes for Friends in a Pandemic

20 Amazing Quotes for Friends in a Pandemic

Besties. BFF’s. Life-long friends.

Friend is such a wonderful and endearing term.

The good Lord created us as relational beings, first with Him, then with others. So it makes sense to not only understand the importance of friends in our lives, but to also celebrate friendship.

But what does true friendship look like? How does it play a practical role in our lives?

And how do we keep our friendships alive during this present pandemic? Because things have changed during COVID-19.

Such as those intimate, fun and face-to-face outings, chats, lunch dates, meetings at our favorite coffee shop, and a whole list of friend-things most of us are missing these days.

Or, we show up sporting a face mask and wonder if our get-togethers will ever look normal again.

So I put together a list of some pretty amazing quotes on friendship. While the way we spend time with friends may look different right now, the heart of friendship remains the same and keeps us connected.

As you read through these great quotes, think about creative ways to reach out to friends. Like texts, emails, calls, FaceTime, MarcoPolo App, cards, record an audio message to send by text (even a prayer), Snapchat a fun photo or video, or drop off their favorite sweet or a gift and leave on the porch giving them the heads up.

Nancy E Head says:

I love the one about David and Jonathan. What a great relationship. God bless, Karen.

Karen says:

Nancy, Jonathan and David’s relationship must have been so loving and emotionally deep in the Lord. A model for us!

Such a good compilation of quotes. Gives me something to chew on and come back to . . . and share!

Karen says:

Thank you, Ava. “Lord, bless our friendships and help us be true spiritual friends to others. Amen.”

Julie Dibble says:

Good morning, Karen,

What a timely post. Zig Ziglar and Tim Keller’s quote spoke to me, not only for me but for our shy, introverted 15 year old son. I will be sharing this post with him. Thank you, sister. May God bless you. Love in Christ, Julie

Karen says:

Hi Julie, I remember your fifteen-year-old is shy and introverted from your writings. I’m so glad this encouraged you and pray it encourages your son as well. I pray we all go out looking for friends. Thankful to call you my online friend…you bless me!

Sharon Hazel says:

“You use steel to sharpen steel, and one friend sharpens another.” Proverbs 27:17 MSG is one of my favourites, walking and talking with close friends is always good for the soul. Some great quotes, thank you.

Karen says:

Love that, Sharon. I’ve never read that version before of Proverbs 27:17. Thanks for sharing it!

Cathy Baker says:

Ah, one of my favorites: “Dear George: Remember no man is a failure who has friends.” ― It’s a Wonderful Life

How true! And friendships, even the best, require tender care — pandemic or no pandemic. Thanks for the reminder, Karen.

Karen says:

Isn’t that a great movie and line, Cathy?! So true and powerful! I like how you added insight that “friendships, even the best, require tender care — pandemic or no pandemic.” That’s a good word. Thankful we’ve met in person, to call you my online friend, blogger friend, author friend, spiritual friend and sister in Christ.

Jessica Brodie says:

I love the example of how Jonathan loved David “as his own soul“—such a testament to real friendship!

Karen says:

It really is, Jessica! Loving someone as our own soul is a powerful thing and biblical when we are commanded to love our neighbor as ourself.

Karen, all of these friendship quotes are marvelous, but I’ve always loved the one by C. S. Lewis. It so very true! Blessings!

Karen says:

I love that one too, Martha. So blessed to have you as an online friend. You bless me!

Thank you for the blessing of your friendship Ms. Karen. I love the concept of “Spiritual Friendship” in #2. I had to pause and thank God for all the many friends, you included, that God has introduced me to in my journey.

Karen says:

I agree, J.D. Keller’s quote has always been one of my favorites. Glad to call you my friend and spiritual brother in Christ. Your comments here, your blog articles, your tweets on Twitter and engagement on Facebook, all help me resemble God in deeper ways.

I love that first one by C. S. Lewis. The one by Zig Ziglar is great, too, and similar to Proverbs 18:24: “A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.”

Karen says:

Me too, Barbara. And thanks for sharing Proverbs 18:24, such a powerful thought to know there are friends who stick that close to us…like a sibling!

I love this post, Karen. Reading these quotes brought beloved faces to my mind and a smile to my heart. I’m honored to call you a sister in Christ and my friend.

Here’s a quote from the Bible about friendship that I cherish. “I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.” ~ Jesus Christ (John 15:15)

It’s amazing to be called a friend of God!

Blessings!

Karen says:

Thanks, Beckie. The honor is mine in calling you “friend.” Thanks for sharing the full verse of John 15:15 and that version. Love it! It is amazing to be called a friend of God, especially considering we were enemies of God before becoming His child.

The friendship of the Lord is for Beckie who fears him, and he makes known to her his covenant. (based on Psalm 25:14)

Yvonne Morgan says:

I love these 29 quotes to remind us of the importance of friendships. I plan to use some of these to send to my friends. Thanks Karen.

Karen says:

Great idea, Yvonne. I didn’t think about suggesting sending the actual quotes here to friends. Thanks for sharing!

Linda Stoll says:

What a cool post, Karen! I’m loving and appreciating my friends more than ever after what we’ve been through in being apart and unable to share the face to face time we’ve enjoyed in the past.

It’s so wonderful to slowly get back together and enjoy rich conversation, some good food, and prayer time.

And oh those blogging friends who’ve walked with us through high and low! I am so forever grateful for their presence in our lives …

Karen says:

That’s a great perspective, Linda. Absence can make the heart grow fonder if we stay creative in ways to engage. And I agree, so thankful for the blogging communities we have connections with and blogger friend’s powerful and encouraging words and messages. You are one that blesses me!

Awww. I love this. My friendships are little life lines to me. laurensparks.net

Karen says:

Like that, Lauren, “little life lines.”

C.S. Lewis captures it for me. Since we’ve relocated away from all of my long-term friends, my best connections with friends have been via phone. I talked to my best friend for four hours straight this past week. New friends I’m connecting with in a Bible study held in the church parking lot, socially distanced, with lots of talking and laughing. Friends are necessary.

Karen says:

Yes, Melinda, I love how C.S. Lewis takes a commonality from “me too” and suggests it’s when friendship is born. Glad you and your best friend are able to have those long and needed phone conversations. So awesome!

Love this message! My husband and I moved this week and we’ve already been welcomed to the neighborhood by new friends. 🙂 What a blessing to know we have kind people in the new neighborhood. 🙂

Karen says:

That’s so wonderful, Melissa. Being in ministry, we have moved mulitple times to different cities and different neighborhoods within each town. Each time I asked the Lord to give me at least one good friend.

I love these quotes. They make you think. 🙂 My favorite quote is this, “A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out.” ― Walter Winchell. I need to remember to be this kind of friend, too. Not just look for them.

Karen says:

Marcie, you make such a great point. We do need to be this kind of friend who walks shoulder-to-shoulder with others when everyone else walked away.

Karen, I love every single quote you shared. 🙂 That first quote by C. S. Lewis makes me smile every time I read it. Friends are imperative for my spirit, and I imagine, for most of us.

Great post!

Karen says:

“Friends are imperative for my spirit….” Agree, Jeanne. The good Lord knew we needed fellowship and connection with friends. And He even uses the term in the Bible. 🙂

Kristi Ann says:

These quotes are so perfect for these days of isolation when we realize how dear our friends are to us!

Karen says:

Isolation has been an eye-opener about many things but particularly friends!
