5 Reminders God Has Our Best Interest in Mind

Have you ever questioned what God’s doing or if He has your best interest in mind? 

I used to flat out question God in a particular situation. Because I couldn’t fathom the end result and even wondered if the Lord really had my best interest at heart.  

Like when I lost a job and lost a baby in utero. And the times I didn’t get the job or the award or the “thing” I wanted. 

Or, when my young friend Jane died at just 28 leaving behind 3 kids and a newborn she never met.

Also, when my father died and the ache never seemed to go away. 

Oh, there’s more lost hopes and dreams along the way. And I imagine for you, too.

Even now, I still have to remind my heart to go to God’s Word, since the truth of Scripture reminds us of 5 areas where we see God’s best interest at work in our lives. 

I pray each reminder encourages you of God’s never ending love and care and affection.

(1.) God loves us with a sunup to sundown, 24/7 kind of love: Our Best Interest.

God’s love is a sure love…never lost, only found. And it gives us hope in a guaranteed pledge of love that’s never eliminated from our lives.

“This I call to mind and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end.” Lamentations 3:21-22 (ESV)

Look at how this love is described in Ephesians 3:18-19 when the Apostle Paul noted how he prayed for the church:

“..may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. (NIV, emphasis added)

(2.) The Lord always works behind the scenes on our behalf.

The Lord is for us, His ways are higher than our ways.

“If God is for us, who can be against us?” Romans 8:31b (ESV)

Further, when we don’t see how God is working, we trust that He is and knows best. 

5 Reminders God Has Our Best Interest in Mind

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8-9 (ESV)

(3.) The heavenly Father has a plan and purpose for our good and His glory: Our Best Interest.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28 (ESV)

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

And the next two verses are important in what we need to do. “Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:12-13 (NIV)

(4.) How great and many are God’s thoughts about us, cheering us on.

“The Lord has been mindful of us; He will bless us.” Psalm 115:12a (NASB)

“How precious also are Your thoughts for me, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the sand. When I awake, I am still with You.” Psalm 139:17-18 (NASB)

(5.) The Almighty goes before us, comes after us, and walks beside us: Our Best Interest.

“It is the LORD who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” Deuteronomy 31:8 (ESV)

“The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore.” Psalm 121:8 (ESV)

“The LORD will go before you, the God of Israel will be your rear guard.” Isaiah 52:12b (NIV)

“You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me.” Psalm 139:5 (NIV)

For some, like me, it takes many years to learn (and I still need to be reminded from time-to-time) but God understands, “I don’t know why Father…” but smiles when He hears, “… but Your will be done, Lord. I will obey because I know You know and always do what’s best for me.”

It takes us all a long journey to remember how our lives are meant to be lived in God’s will and purpose on this earth. It’s the sole purpose of our existence. “It is the LORD who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” Deuteronomy 31:8 (ESV) God bless.

Knowing that our Father loves us 24/7 and will never forsake us helps me get through the tough times that come along, Karen. He leads us, walks beside us, and sets His rear guard to protect us always.
We can’t see day-to-day how God is working everything for the good of those who trust Him, but our faith that He is is enough.

I especially like #2–the work God does behind the scenes. I recently heard a prayer that I’ve taken to heart: Lord, thank You for the work You’re doing that I can’t see.

It is such a tremendous comfort that God truly is ALWAYS working behind the scenes. We have no idea the full scope of his plan! We are blessed to play any sort of role in it.

Thanks, Jessica. One thing I know is God is large and in charge and still on His throne no matter what, none of that will ever change. Remembering this helps me fully trust the Lord with my life.

Oh Karen, you certainly have endured more than your share of heartache! Your hope and faith offer strong encouragement for us all. The theme of this post brought to mind a quote from John Flavel, a Puritan minister in England in the 1600s: “God is performing that work in which your soul would rejoice–if you did see the design of it.” It’s another trust-building truth to know God doesn’t waste our suffering.

We aren’t supposed to have all the answers on this earth. But, we can rest in the peace and comfort of God. He loves us and always wants the best for His children. Beautiful message Karen. 🙂

I thought about something like this recently. I left my phone at home. No big deal but then I remembered the tickets were on my phone so we had to go back and were a few minutes late. I was so frustrated but then I remembered that God may have kept us safe from some unforeseen circumstances. We must accept all the detours and praise the Lord even when we don’t understand. Yes, we serve a good, good Father.

I love the thought He hems me in behind and before! His goodness and mercy are chasing after me. So good to remember when disappointment comes my way. But someday, disappointment will never knock at my door again.

So am I, Jerralea. Even when we can’t see goodness and mercy following us, we rest assured their footprints are there, even in the valleys.

Karen, such a truth-filled post! God made His love so real to me during one of the most painful seasons of my life. Whenever I’m tempted to think He loves me less than others, I have only to think back to the truths He shared with me during that time. He always, always has our best interest in mind. When we embrace this reality, it’s easier to walk through the hardest of seasons.

Just the other day I was questioning about a job my husband and I both thought God blessed me with a job a was considered for, and we were sure I’d get. But I didn’t get the job. So Isaiah 55:8-9 is what my heart leaned into most today. However, He has blessed me with so much more than imagined, too! He is trustworthy and good.
