Go Big or Go Home This Easter

Go Big or Go Home This Easter, text and design by Adobe SparkGoing big to celebrate holidays and special occasions brings me joy. Whether reindeer, flags, turkeys, balloons, party hats, fireworks, paper hearts, pumpkins, or costumes; I say go big.

So why not for Easter? Bunnies, bright-colored eggs, baskets, and assorted candies make me smile.

Every year, we go big in my family. Here’s how.

Go Big with Lunch

Two entrées highlight the meal; roast beef and chicken casserole. Also, the Friday’s Easter menu lists these side-items at no additional charge: gravy, mashed potatoes, rolls, macaroni and cheese, peas, and the cream corn my daughter makes along with our featured dessert of the day.

We take our seats at the table. And a feast fit for a king lays before us. But we never disappoint. Second helpings become the sport of the day.

Go Big With Baskets

I keep one tradition in place. Kids, little or grown, human or pet, receive an Easter basket. Our adult son and daughter, son-in-law, two-year-old grandson, and our four-legged fury kids.

Baskets spill over with sweet delights and fun toys or gadgets. A competition of paddle ball, parachute men, or magnetic yo-yo emerges with the grown kids.

You see, each “kid” gets a basket. There’s no boundaries or limitations; not age or gender or bloodline. Both my son and son-in-law meet the same eligibility requirements.

I saved my daughter’s first Easter gift as a baby—a blue stuffed rabbit holding a carrot. So, when my grandson was only a few months old, I gave him the rabbit for his first Easter, pictured in his basket.

The rabbit’s in impeccable shape. Nothing is torn or tattered or worn. Only a few dirt spots marked his fur, which wiped clean.

And a bunny passed on over twenty-five years later, from mommy to baby, warms my heart. It’s not the blue rabbit per se. Instead, I relish that her first Easter gift was also his first Easter gift. Maybe, our family will pass on the rabbit to many generations.

Go Big with Worship

Come Easter Sunday, before any other “go big” stuff happens, we worship in church together as a family. My son-in-law leads worship and plays guitar, and my son is the drummer. Still further, my husband, the pastor, preaches the Word with a timely message.

The Friday’s agenda is always about church. And the Friday’s are all about Jesus…every Easter, every Sabbath, and every day.

Only then do we go home for Easter lunch and the see-what’s-in-your-basket fun begins. To go big for Easter really has nothing to do with Peter Cottontail hopping down the bunny trail. Or, even passing on a stuffed rabbit. But it’s about passing on something else.

“I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day…” 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 NLT.

Go Big with Jesus

Go Big or Go Home This Easter, image by Adobe SparkJesus came to earth with “go big” plans from the Father.

To live among the people, teach them God’s truths, love unconditionally, and heal them physically and spiritually.

Sentenced as an innocent man. Crucified at the hands of influential men.

But raised to life by the powerful Spirit of God. The tomb is empty. Christ is risen! Hallelujah!

And here’s the best go big part, He came to die for the sins of all mankind.

The Lamb, impeccable and without blemish, was torn and tattered for us.

Eternal life purchased for us…the first Easter gift. God desires to call each of us one of His kids. There’s no boundaries or limitations; not age or gender or bloodline. We each meet the same eligibility requirements because Jesus became our bloodline on the cross.

Go Big this Easter

It’s time to take our seats at the table. The King has laid a feast before us.

† “. . . I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty” John 6:35 NLT.

Go Big or Go Home This Easter, by Adobe SparkAll items are free: grace, unconditional love, atonement, and salvation. No additional charge for second helpings of forgiveness, mercy, or spiritual blessings.

Meet and worship the Savior who went big for you.

Becky Smith says:

LOVED this wonderful post! The best part: “Calvary’s cross wipes clean every dirt spot we bear from sin.” And I am forever thankful!

Karen says:

Yes! I love that part, Becky! The Lamb, impeccable and without blemish, was torn and tattered for us. The first Easter gift, eternal life. Happy Easter! He is risen just as He said.

Karen, I love this! You know what came to mind as I was reading? I was thinking, “Wow, I wish I could celebrate Easter with every single friend and family member who loves the Lord. I wish I could be a part of Karen’s and her mine.” And the Lord impressed upon my heart, “Someday you will, child. I’m preparing a place for ALL my children where you will celebrate the Lamb forever and ever!”
Oh, what a day of rejoicing that will be. When we all see Jesus, we’ll praise and shout the victory! Amen.
Happy Easter to you, dear friend.

Karen says:

That is so sweet, Beckie! Love your thoughts and reminds me of this from the article… God desires to call each of us one of His kids. There’s no boundaries or limitations; not age or gender or bloodline. We each meet the same eligibility requirements because Jesus became our bloodline on the cross.

So since we are already His kids and sisters in Christ, we WILL celebrate together one day! We will! Until then, Happy Easter! He is risen!

Love this fun post, Karen! Happy Easter to you and your family.

Karen says:

Thanks, Sarah. So grateful for the first Easter gift of eternal life. Even amidst all the fun, ‪it really is all about Jesus every Easter, every Sabbath, and every day. ‬Happy Easter to you!

We have SO MUCH to celebrate with Easter, so I’m with you!

Karen says:

Yes, we do, Michele. May we never forget the cross or the empty tomb. May we never get over being saved and rescued. Blessings!

KellyRBaker says:

Um… i’m coming to your house next Easter! That dinner sounds delicious! 😉

Karen says:

Haha, Kelly. We’d be glad to have you! We’ll save you a seat at the table. 🙂 So thankful for God’s banquet table, Jesus is saving us a seat.

Of all times to go big, Resurrection Sunday is it! I’ve never thought of it this way, but this phrase says “celebrate!” Hope your Easter was wonderful and full of good family fun!

Karen says:

So true, Crystal! When we consider how Jesus came with such “go big” plans from God, it makes me all the more ready to celebrate all the fun ways, but also celebrate the blood that covers us and the Lord’s saving grace. The tomb is empty and that’s worth a celebration!
