God Bankrupted Heaven to Save Us

God Bankrupted Heaven to Save Us

God bankrupted heaven for me and for you.

You’ve probably heard it said that Jesus left the splendor of heaven to dwell on earth with mere humans.

So when Christ left the heavenly realm, He left behind all that the word splendor reveals: Great fame or glory, great light or luster; brilliance, magnificent appearance, display or grandeur. (Yourdictionary.com)

Still, there’s more. Jesus also left behind a close and intimate fellowship with the rest of the godhead, God the Father and the Holy Spirit. And He left behind those who never cease to say, “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!” Revelation 4:8 (ESV)

But He left. And heaven was not the same until He returned.

Jesus left the splendor and spiritual riches of the heavenly realm to come and save us. Heaven was not the same until He returned. And when He saves us, we are never the same. Click To Tweet

Heaven Bankrupted: Jesus Saves

Those daydreams of shining knights coming to save the day and us. The people we hope will swoop in as a hero over our difficult circumstances and life’s unexpected curve balls. They all have cracks in their armor or holes in their capes.

But Jesus steps in and rescues us from areas in our life marked: Rescue needed.

These are our real needs. These are the areas where a true rescue needs to take place. Such as forgiveness, mercy, and grace for sin. Like unconditional love and real peace only found in our Savior.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 (ESV)

Jesus saves. He came to die for the salvation of all people; anyone who believes and accepts eternal life.

Heaven Bankrupted: An Empty Tomb for Every Empty Place

Christ willingly emptied Himself on a cross to pay for our sins and fill the emptiness of our souls.

God Bankrupted Heaven to Save Us

Jesus suffered to comfort us in suffering, beaten and broken to put us back together. Separated from His Father so He connected us in relationship with God—never distanced like the social distancing we now practice, but always near.

Maybe our life feels empty from a world turned topsy-turvy. Perhaps the familiar in our lives was replaced with emptiness like none other we’ve known or experienced.

When everything familiar seems stripped away, remember the stone supernaturally rolled away. Jesus Christ rose from the dead, leaving behind an empty tomb, so we are able to leave behind empty from our past or present.

“He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.”  Matthew 28:6 (NIV)

Heaven Bankrupted: Jesus Gave His Life to Give us Life

Made for more, we realize there’s more to this life. Christ came to give us more…to give us what is missing.

Jesus Christ came to give us a whole lot more than eternal life. He gifts us with a better life. He came not only to give us an eternal future, but to also gift us with a better present—to redeem us and our story.

Yet, we must keep our eyes on the Savior who is the culmination of the “more” we need. If we immerse ourselves in godly things, in spiritual things, and even in ministry but miss Jesus, we miss it. We miss our reason for rescue.

Yes, Jesus saves us from condemnation, wrath, ourselves, other gods, and eternal death. But salvation also brings new and abundant life with Jesus as the Savior of our souls and way of life.

“Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live.’” John 11:25 (ESV)

The Bankruptcy of Heaven Canceled our Debt

When God bankrupted heaven to send His one and only Son, He canceled our spiritual bankruptcy to fill our lives with the riches of heaven. Our debt was paid in full. Hallelujah!

Jesus’ blood canceled our sin debt. The resurrection gave us grace.

God canceled our former life. The resurrection gave us new life.

Our Father canceled the enemy’s bondage. The resurrection gave us freedom.

The triune God canceled our eternal punishment and death. The resurrection gave us everlasting life.

Remembering the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, let’s ask the Lord to draw us closer to Him in transforming ways that last forever.

Yes, Karen, heaven was bankrupted so that we, as believers, could be made rich indeed. Let us celebrate anew Jesus’ saving grace this Easter!
Blessings!

Karen says:

Happy Easter, Martha! He is risen!

Karen, these words are so life giving and encouraging. They remind us of the matchless love of our God and Savior, Jesus Messiah. It’s inconceivable that the Creator God would leave his heavenly abode for US, because of his great love for us! Thank you for these reminders today!

Karen says:

Melinda, it will always be hard for us to wrap our heads around this great sacrifice in God incarnate coming to earth, living among humans, dying a gruesome death in our place, and providing the final sacrifice to give us redemption and free us from the curse of the law! Oh, Hallelujah!

Marla says:

Beautiful 😍

Karen says:

Happy Resurrection Day, Marla!

Yvonne Morgan says:

Hallelujah and amen. He filled us with all those good things. I am so glad He did. Beautiful post Karen.

Karen says:

Thank you, Yvonne! Jesus saves us from condemnation, wrath, ourselves, other gods, and eternal death. But salvation also brings new and abundant life with Jesus as the Savior of our souls and way of life.

Carol says:

Praise God and give thanks for His amazing, steadfast love! Our world needs this message!

Karen says:

Yes, Carol! When everything familiar seems stripped away, remember the stone supernaturally rolled away.

J.D. Wininger says:

To recognize that I can never earn, nor repay, His love, grace, and mercy is unfathomable. How humbling it is to realize the high price God paid for my soul. To Him, I owe my life.

Karen says:

Amen, J.D. All to Him we owe! “He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.” Matthew 28:6 (NIV)

Remembering the sacrifice He made and the love He has for us should guide our words and actions in every moment. Great post Karen.

Karen says:

Amen, Melissa. “Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live.’” John 11:25 (ESV)

Jeanne says:

Karen, this is such a beautiful post. And this right here:

“When God bankrupted heaven to send His one and only Son, He canceled our spiritual bankruptcy to fill our lives with the riches of heaven. Our debt was paid in full.”

The picture your words portray fills me with hope. I’m so humbled by our heavenly Father who emptied heaven to fill us with the riches of heaven. Have a beautiful Easter!

Karen says:

Thanks so much, Jeanne. I like how you expressed how the Father emptied heaven to fill us with heaven’s riches! That’s good! Christ willingly emptied Himself on a cross to pay for our sins and fill the emptiness of our souls.

Jesus canceled our debt and God canceled our former life–the best kind of cancel culture! Thank you for sharing, Karen.

Karen says:

Yes, it is, Stephanie! Our Father canceled the enemy’s bondage. The resurrection gave us freedom. The triune God canceled our eternal punishment and death. The resurrection gave us everlasting life.

Kristi Ann

Karen says:

Happy Resurrection Day, Kristi Ann!

Hmmm . . . I have to chew on this one a bit. While I understand your intent, I’m not sure “bankrupt” is the right word, especially after I researched the definition!
But I do agree that when Jesus left the splendor of heaven to live and die for us, it was a supreme sacrifice offered to us by the grace of God. It’s a gift for which I will spend the rest of my life thanking Him! On that we can certainly agree!
Happy Easter!

Karen says:

I get what you are saying, Ava. I researched the word, too. And while it is mostly related to financial issues, I just loved the idea of relating it to God making such a huge withdrawal from heaven to then make a huge deposit to cover our spiritually bankruptcy. It canceled our debt and marked it as paid in full. Now we are living in spiritual abundance because of the blood of Jesus. I remember when I first heard Cory Asbury explain why he wrote and titled his song, “Reckless Love.” It’s not because God Himself is reckless. But because He doesen’t take into account what He’s giving up to love us. That’s how I approached this theme. Happy Resurrection Day! Thanks for your honest words.

This is a complete new metaphor for me in thinking about the transaction that occurred — my sin for His righteousness!
What a savior!

Karen says:

Michele, I like how you said “transaction” also! What a beautiful exchange we received! Happy Easter!

“When God bankrupted heaven to send His one and only Son, He canceled our spiritual bankruptcy to fill our lives with the riches of heaven. Our debt was paid in full. Hallelujah!” Hallelujah indeed!

Karen says:

Jesus’ blood canceled our sin debt. The resurrection gave us grace. God canceled our former life. The resurrection gave us new life. A thousand Hallelujahs! Happy Easter, Theresa.

Nancy E Head says:

We can’t fathom the depth of the gifts we have because of Good Friday and Easter. Every good that is in the world is because of Christ and His love. Happy Easter, Karen!

Karen says:

Agree, Nancy! Jesus canceled our spiritual bankruptcy to fill our lives with the riches of heaven. Our debt was paid in full. Hallelujah!

Jessica Brodie says:

Beautifully said. What Jesus did for us is such an inconceivable gift! We are so blessed!

Karen says:

Thank you, Jessica! Remembering the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, let’s ask the Lord to draw us closer to Him in transforming ways that last forever.

Kristi Ann says:

Thanks so much Sister in Jesus-Yeshua Christ-Messiah Karen, here is my post about Jesus-Yeshua Christ-Messiah is RISEN and ALIVE in HEAVEN Above ~> ( https://kristiann1.com/2016/03/10/jyche/ ) There are Three Christian Video’s For Everyone too Enjoy!!

( Matthew 28:5-7 KJV ) “And the Angel answered and Said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus-Yeshua, which was Crucified. HE is not here: for HE is RISEN, as HE said. And go quickly, and tell HIS disciples that HE is RISEN from the dead; and, behold, HE goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see HIM: lo, I have told you.”!!

Kristi Ann

Karen says:

Thanks for sharing, Kristi Ann! He is risen! Hallelujah!

Anita Ojeda says:

Thank you for this beautiful reminder of the cost of our salvation. Jesus gave of himself freely, we also should give freely of ourselves (a thing I often struggle with).

Karen says:

Anita, it is a struggle to give freely of ourselves. Thanks for adding to the conversation.

Karen,
Not only are we made free from bondage when Christ saves us, He gives us all the blessings that were taken from Heaven. Saved AND Filled…wow! Excellent post!
Blessings,
Bev xx

Karen says:

Yes, Bev! Ephesians 1, we are blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realm.

Joanne Viola says:

We need to so think on this more often than once a year. He never leaves us the same and for that, I am most grateful. May I never forget all that He accomplished for me on the Cross.

Karen says:

Joanne, I like this, “He never leaves us the same….” A hundred hallelujahs!

Paula Short says:

Amen Karen, and again I say Amen. ” Jesus’ blood canceled our sin debt. The resurrection gave us grace. God canceled our former life. The resurrection gave us new life. Our Father canceled the enemy’s bondage. The resurrection gave us freedom.” Thank you for your blessed and encouraging words. To God be the glory. Blessings.

Karen says:

Glad this encouraged you, Paula. It’s definitely truths that make us want to raise a hallelujah! So thankful for the power of the blood.
