I’m an Average Girl With an Above Average God

I’m an Average Girl With an Above Average God

There’s something I want you to know. I’m just an average girl with an above average God. He’s the one true God. The Almighty.

We use the terms “average” and “above average” when talking about test scores, skill level, talents, workmanship, food, and more.

So I’m thankful the Lord takes ordinary people and transforms us from the inside out.

Because the Lord always meant for us to connect who we are with whose we are.

Our identity lies in the Father, we belong to Him.

Still, we likely cannot list all the wonderful and amazing attributes about the Lord, but let’s discuss some of these characteristics.

Above Average God

God’s glory cannot be mistaken. He’s God. Mighty. Powerful. Majestic. Holy. Eternal. Infinite. Wise. Faithful.

“For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, and he is to be feared above all gods.” 1 Chronicles 16:25 (ESV)

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.” Isaiah 6:3 (NIV)

The one true God. He’s living, Creator, sovereign, in control, majestic, loving, Judge, Most High, reigning King, light, magnificent, good, and merciful.

“So that from the rising of the sun to the place of its setting people may know there is none besides me. I am the Lord, and there is no other.” Isaiah 45:6 (ESV)

“God reigns over the nations; God sits on his holy throne.” Psalm 47:8 (ESV)

I AM

The Lord: I AM, omnipresent, all-knowing, able, unchanging, Father, provider, Shepherd, worthy, Warrior, Salvation, peace, refuge, and never fails.

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” Psalm 23:1 (ESV)

“Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” Ephesians 3:20-21 (ESV)

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1 (ESV)

Average Girl: Who God Is

When we consider who God is, we realize all the ways He works in our lives and hearts.

And we’re thankful He lives and reigns inside ordinary people like us, using us for His glory and purpose.

I’m saved by Amazing Grace, held by the Father’s love, and given truth through the Holy Spirit.

The Lord always has something better for me than I can ever imagine. Why hold on to my messy and measly things when the treasures of heaven are waiting for me?

There’s a huge difference between claiming I rub shoulders with the Almighty and leaning on His “everlasting arms.”

The Lord is higher and stronger than anything I face.

What God Does

Karen is part of a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, that Karen may proclaim the excellencies of him who called her out of darkness into his marvelous light. (1 Peter 2:9 ESV)

Insert your name in this passage and recite it out loud if you’ve been called out of darkness into His light.

I have bragging rights. Boasting in a Mighty God who’s done great things.

I serve the God of second chances and who allows U-turns so I can purposefully run toward Him.

Obedient People

When we give up the reins, the Lord reigns supreme. The Lord takes His rightful place in our hearts and lives.

We trust our loving and caring heavenly Father knows best and is directing the details from His throne room of glory.

We worship the Almighty alone. People and things make lousy gods. Only God is God.

If we fail to put our Lord first in our lives, we miss out on so many true blessings that only Jesus can give us. I’m an average girl, too, Karen, but I must admit that all talents I may have are gifts from God, ones to be celebrated as precious ways to serve His kingdom. May we all give thanks to Him!

Karen says:

Martha, all our talents are gits from the Lord, He’s our Creator who instilled them in us for His glory. God bless!

We must remain faithful and obedient no matter. He is faithful. God bless, Karen.

Karen says:

Nancy, glad we serve a God who is mighty and able and faithful! God bless.

I am thankful to be His child. I pray I will honor Him in every part of my life. I pray that as I serve Him, others will be led to know Him. Have a blessed day! 🙂

Karen says:

Melissa, what a wonderful prayer, “I will honor Him in every part of my life.” That’s key in the Christian life. God bless.

Yvonne Morgan says:

We are blessed to be part of God’s family and part of His plans. Amazing to thing about. Thank you Karen and blessings

Karen says:

Yvonne, it is awe-inspiring to consider who God is and who we are in Christ. God bless!

Hallelujah! This post had me praising God, the Great I AM along with you line by line! This is such a good reminder when I feel small, weak, or just worn out. God is bigger, higher, stronger than anything I face AND He never gets worn out! Love this message, Karen!

Karen says:

We really do have bragging rights, don’t we? Boasting in a Mighty God who’s done great things. Praise His mighty name. God bless!

David says:

Trust in the Lord every day and every hour,
Be strong in faith, walk with Him step by step!
With the Lord on His way to always move forward,
Look with love at the sky, because God is great!

Follow the narrow path marked by Jesus,
And let yourself be led by Him all the time.
Be good and seek peace, live in truth,
And always keep your eyes on the sky.

Keep your straight path and go joyfully upward,
At the end, King Jesus himself is waiting for you.
Take up your cross in humility and be victorious,
Keep your faith, faith in Christ.

Stay in check, beware of evil,
And anchored by the Lord may you always move forward.
Do not stay in the valley, but climb higher and higher,
The reward will be great from the hand of Jesus.

In His holy work be tireless,
Always be careful, stay awake until the end.
Stay close to the Lord, have a pure life,
Because at the end, you get the crown as a reward.
Amen!

Karen says:

Powerful, David. This: “Follow the narrow path marked by Jesus,
And let yourself be led by Him all the time.”

J.D. Wininger says:

It is God in you that makes you such an extraordinary lady dear sister-in-Christ. His presence, when we allow it to, will transform us into His likeness with time.

Karen says:

Amen, J.D. Christ in us is the hope of glory. (Colossians 1:27) Blessings!

Jessica says:

Amen to this! It’s all about God, period. That’s it!

Karen says:

I learned years ago, it’s not about me, even ministry is not about me. It’s about the One who said, “Follow Me.” God bless.

Joanne Viola says:

Karen, this was such a wonderful reminder of Who we house inside of us. More of Him and less of me, all to the glory of the Father. May it be so in our lives is my prayer.

Karen says:

Joanne, I absolutely love how you expressed this, “Who we house inside of us.” Yes! I pray to always connect who I am to whose I am. God bless.
