Revealing the King of Glory: Week 1

Revealing the King of Glory: Week 1

Who is this King of glory?

In three weeks, we celebrate Christmas and the King of Glory.

While I find it unbelievable, more troubling is the unbelief I see behind the holiday—Holy-day.

But, the birth of Jesus was revealing the Savior to the world.

The One promised to rescue us from sin, other gods, the enemy and even ourselves.

And as always, the heavenly Father kept His promise.

God’s Son came to bring the light of heaven to earth. Jesus Christ, the Messiah, born to die.

Denied earthly glory and fame, Jesus bears a name above every name. He is the King of glory.

The King of Glory

Yet the phrase, “The King of glory” is only found once in the Bible, in Psalm 24. It’s one of my favorite passages.

So, over the coming weeks until Christmas, the ten verses of Psalm 24 will guide us in revealing the King of Glory.

And we are not only revealing Christ in a more meaningful way in our own heart, but also to those around us and to the world.

Now our passage:

The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein, for he has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers.

Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? And who shall stand in his holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully. He will receive blessing from the Lord and righteousness from the God of his salvation. Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob. Selah

Lift up your heads, O gates! And be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty, the Lord, mighty in battle! Lift up your heads, O gates! And lift them up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.

Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory!

Psalm 24:1-10 (ESV)

Revealing the King of Glory: Week 1

Creation Revealing the King of Glory

Since the beginning of time, creation’s revealing the glory of King Jesus. Look at the first two verses of Psalm 24.

“The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein, for he has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers.” Psalm 24:1-2 (ESV, emphasis added)

You see, not only is the earth the Lord’s as He founded it, Scripture also reveals how Jesus, part of the triune God, participated in creation.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.” John 1:1-3 (ESV, empashis added)

Revealing and Seeing His Glory

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14 (ESV, emphasis added)

Still further, “For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.” Colossians 1:16 (ESV, emphasis added)

Every time we gaze at a sunset, see a glimmer of light shinning through the window, stand in awe at the twinkling of stars or the ebb and flow of the ocean. Let it remind us, all of creation reveals the King of Glory.

Creation and Jesus’ Birth

Even God’s creation participated in the birth of His Son: stable filled with animals, shepherds and sheep, angelic announcements throughout the story and a brilliant star.

With this start, I think you’re going to make this a very Merry CHRISTmas indeed Ms. Karen. Let us always remember “the reason for the season.” 🙂 God’s blessings young lady.

Karen says:

J.D., The King of glory is the real joy found in a “merry” Christ-mas. God bless!

Yvonne Morgan says:

I love how all of nature points us back to the King of Glory. I see Him daily in a beautiful sunrise or in a hawk sitting in a tree. Thank you for sharing the richness of this Psalm and I look forward to the series over the next few weeks.

Karen says:

Yvonne, since I was a little girl, the skyline and sunrises and sunsets have mesmerized me in the beauty of God’s creation. I love your example of a hawk sitting in a tree.

Let us prepare our hearts to receive the King of Glory this Christmas, Karen. All of creation will find itself rejoicing!
Blessings!

Karen says:

Good point, Martha, to prepare our hearts so the King of Glory may come in!

One of the most wonderful ways I find peace is to pause and talk a walk outside. I notice the beauty God has provided. From the grass to the sky, the world is filled with His glory.

Karen says:

Amen, Melissa. I love to go on “nature” walks and when we go on hikes and day or afternoon drives, noticing all of creation reminds us the world is filled with His glory!

Beckie says:

Seeing God’s glory in creation like the dawning of a new day, often takes my breath away.

Soon my daughter-in-law will give birth to our second grandchild, and we will see God’s glorious miracle of birth!

Karen says:

Hey Beckie, those are both beautiful and powerful examples of the Lord’s glory in our lives. Even Romans 1 says men are without excuse because God is revealed in all of creation. And who can fathom the miracle of birth without believing in God? Congratulations and excited for you!

Jessica Brodie says:

This says it all: “God’s Son came to bring the light of heaven to earth.” What a gift! What a blessing!

Karen, your writing always touches my heart and my soul. Thank you.

Karen says:

Jessica, appreciate your kindness and encouragement. Thankful Jesus brought us out of the kingdom of darkness and into His marvelous light and glory!

I love this glorious reminder of Christ’s glory!
Yes, He came as a babe, born of a woman and laid in a manger, but He was and is our glorious God!

Karen says:

Oh, yes, Ava. Jesus left the splendor of heaven, but He also brought the splendor of heaven with Him…for He IS the King of glory!

Nancy E Head says:

Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world!

God bless and Merry Christmas!

Karen says:

A hundred Hallelujahs! Merry Christmas, Nancy!

Beautiful remembrance of our beautiful Savior and King! God’s glory revealed in creation is so powerful. May we remember, the One who created all, gave all, that we could all be with Him. By grace, through faith in the finished work of Jesus on the cross. Glory to the Lamb of God!

Karen says:

Hallelujah, Melissa! Your words made me want to shout! I pray we authentically praise the King of Glory instead of the rocks crying out in our place. For He is worthy!

Este es un maravilloso trabajo con respecto a nuestro REY DE GLORIA, fabuloso.
FELICITACIONES KAREN..

SINCERELY
MAX MORA

Karen says:

Thank you, Max. God bless and Merry Christmas.

Donna says:

Karen, such a beautiful article! I love looking for the King of Glory in creation! Praise God indeed all creation reveals God to us. You can’t gaze up at the night sky and NOT see the splendor of His glory!!! Thank you!

Karen says:

Thank you, Donna. Yes, a beautiful starry night reveals the glory of King Jesus. He, too, is beautifully arrayed in splendor and majesty.

This is a beautiful introduction to Advent, a glorious reminder of exactly Who this season is all about. It’s with great joy that I enter this season of hope in Christ after the multiple difficulties of this most difficult year.

Karen says:

So true, Melinda. In these final weeks of 2020, how appropriate to really reflect on the King of Glory who came to give himself freely in our place and die for us out of amazing graze and unconditional love.

Thanks so much for linking up with me at the #FaithAndWorshipChristianWeekend 12, open until December 7 at 12:05 am. Shared on social media.

Karen says:

My pleasure, thanks for your faithful platform!

Kristi Ann says:

Hallelujah and Amen!! Baby Jesus Christ -Yeshua HaMashiach Born in Bethlehem Israel-Yisrael!!

Love Always and Shalom, YSIC \o/

Kristi Ann

Karen says:

Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory!

Psalm 24:10 (ESV)

Creation just sings of His glory. Thanks for linking up with us at the #FaithAndWorshipChristianWeekend 12

Karen says:

And let us shout His glory! Thanks, Sylvia!

Anita Ojeda says:

I see God’s glory in the long toes of a northern jacana and its iridescent feathers. I see God’s glory in the tenacity of teddy bear cholla. I see God’s glory in hummingbirds, sunrise and sunset. The earth is not silent.

Karen says:

Beautifully expressed, Anita. Who can deny the creation that points to His majesty?!

What a great start to Christmas, to remember that Jesus is not only our Savior but the Creator of the earth and the heavens. All does, indeed, point to the King of Glory. Thank you, Karen!

Karen says:

Yes, Marcie! “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.” John 1:1-3 (ESV) Merry Christmas!

Did you know that beauty is a great apologetic for the existence of God? There is an objective truth to beauty. We all see it in God’s creation, even if we don’t always connect the dots back to its Creator. But we know that He created us with an innate sense to see beauty universally. That’s what I love about it – it’s God’s design!

Karen says:

Lisa, that absolutly makes sense when you think about Romans 1, how even in looking at nature and creation, men are without excuse in believing there’s a God. It IS His design!

Karen, I like the way you’re focusing on Psalm 24. As soon as I read the title of your post, the Third Day song began going through my head. I didn’t realize “King of Glory” is only mentioned once in the Bible. I definitely see Him in creation…in the ocean as it crashes onto rocks, in a sunrise, in a snowscape. We can see evidence of him everywhere if we’ll look.

Karen says:

Jeanne, thanks for the reminder of the song, I’d forgotten about it (and I met Mac Powell). Psalm 24 has always been a favorite. In fact, for years I performed a Mary (mother of Jesus) monologue and I always ended with the last few verses of Psalm 24 of Jesus as the King of Glory. I like how you expressed this, “I definitely see Him in creation…in the ocean as it crashes onto rocks, in a sunrise, in a snowscape. We can see evidence of him everywhere if we’ll look.”
