10 Compelling Attributes Also Known as Jesus

10 Compelling Attributes Also Known as Jesus

Jesus, also known as….

Do you remember the first time you heard the name, Jesus

I was a child. But when I turned sixteen, Jesus became my salvation, my Savior.

Since Jesus brings us compelling qualities of life when we know Him as Savior and Lord, these central attributes also bear His name.

Let’s look at 10 aspects also known as, Jesus.

(1.) Love has a name, Jesus.

True Love defined means, Jesus. Our lack of love from people never makes the Love of Christ less true.

Instead, we are loved the way He says we are loved: Love lays down His life for me (John 15:13); perfect Love drives out my fear (1 John 4:18-19), and He redeems my life from the pit and crowns me with Love (Psalm 103:4).

(2.) Mercy, also known as, Jesus.

God sent Mercy from the throne room of heaven to take our place. Beaten, bruised, and pierced with nails, Mercy’s blood spilled on a cross. And Mercy bestowed forgiveness on us to cover our sins.

“He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit.” Titus 3:5

(3.) Peace has a name, Jesus.

Peace means the absence of war and conflict and a state of rest. Perhaps we hear Christ referred to as the Prince of Peace.

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6 NIV

The Bible Knowledge Commentary notes this is the first of Isaiah’s 25 references to peace. The Messiah would bring and maintain peace and “will have an eternal rule of peace” that never ends. This biblical Peace is the Messiah Himself. He rules and reigns in our hearts as Peace.

(4.) Hope, also known as, Jesus.

The world offers many forms of hope. Yet, they fizzle and fade away. But, God made big plans to bring Hope to a hopeless people. Hope’s birth took place in a lowly stable. Hope grew and carried out the heavenly Father’s will—even death on a cross.

Hallelujah! Hopeless never gets the last word. Hope rose from the dead when Jesus Christ conquered the grave.

(5.) Grace has a name, Jesus.

I read this verse: “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” James 1:17 NIV

Then, the Lord whispered to my heart: Karen, Grace is the greatest gift, a good and perfect gift (James 1:17) that came down from Me to you as my Son.

God extended amazing Grace to us at such a high price, His only Son.

(6.) Truth, also known as, Jesus.

When we search for Truth, we find it in Christ.

And the gospel of John sheds some light. The Word was in the beginning (John 1:1); the Word became flesh, full of Truth (John 1:I4); Truth came through Jesus Christ (John 1:17), and Jesus is the Truth (John 14:6).

(7.) Freedom has a name, Jesus.

“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor, He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.” Isaiah 61:1 NIV

“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” John 8:36 ESV

“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” 2 Corinthians 3:17 ESV

(8.) Kindness, also known as, Jesus.

God’s lovingkindness is breath in our lungs and grace in our hearts. God’s Kindness is eternal and abundant Life. And God’s Kindness is Jesus, the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us. Ephesians 2:6b ESV.

So when others see a kind smile or a random act of kindness. Or, they notice generosity and compassion in us, they see Kindness—Jesus in us!

(9.) Joy has a name, Jesus.

Consider Jesus’ story. The wise men, “When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy.” Matthew 2:10 ESV (emphasis added)

Angels proclaimed to the shepherds, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.” Luke 2:10b ESV (emphasis added)

Women who visited the empty tomb. “So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples.” Matthew 28:1, 8 ESV (emphasis added)

Great. Joy. Is. Jesus.

(10.) Victory, also known as, Jesus.

Christ defeated death and the grave. He put the enemy under His feet. And He conquered sin. Christ fights our present battles as Victor in our spiritual warfare. Victory is His name.

Love, love, love this!
I so enjoy studying the names and attributes of God and this is a new twist on the subject!

Karen says:

Ava, thank you for your encouragement. So thankful how all the powerful attributes we desire most in life also bear the name of Jesus!

This message brings me comfort and peace. Thank you Karen. 🙂 I am thankful to be His child.

Karen says:

Isn’t it the best family to be adopted into, Melissa?!

And love has a name; it’s “Jesus!” Amen Ms. Karen. Such an important reminder ma’am; that we should each endeavor to take on the characteristics of Christ; defined by His names. Loved this post ma’am!

Karen says:

Thanks so much, J.D. I pray we grow more and more into the image of Jesus. And that others see these qualities in us as Jesus lives in us!

So beautifully done, Karen! All of these attributes of Jesus resonate with me, but since my word of the year is “hope,” I’ll double down on placing my every hope in Him who loves me without measure.
Blessings!

Karen says:

Thank you, Martha! I so love to consider how our hope above all other hopes, the one Hope that trumps them all and outshines every hope offered is Jesus himself!

Karen, this morning as I was praying, I said, “Jesus is Freedom.” Then it dawned on me that those words did not come from my mouth but the Holy Spirit within me. I just sat there meditating on the truth of those words. I love your post today. Great truth from God’s Word. Thank you.

Karen says:

Stephanie, how wonderful the Holy Spirit spoke to your spirit in that way. Because Freedom certainly has a name. A name above every other name. It’s Jesus!

Cathy Baker says:

Great post, Karen. I heard the name of Jesus when I was a little girl, but it wouldn’t be until the age of 27 that I knew Him as my Lord and Savior. Learning and experiencing His attributes for myself is one of God’s greatest blessings!

Karen says:

Hey Cathy, thanks for sharing your story and experience. And love how you said, “Learning and experiencing His attributes for myself is one of God’s greatest blessings!” Amen to that, friend!

Carol Castagna says:

Thank you, Karen!
Whatever good quality, people see in us, is the reflection of Jesus living in us: you’ve captured this reality beautifully in your post. You also offer wonderful examples of Jesus’ walk and of His words, for us to follow.

“Hope rose from the dead when Jesus Christ conquered the grave.” I found this to be an especially beautiful, Holy Spirit-inspired sentence! xo
God bless you in your ministry.

Continued blessings, Carol Castagna

Karen says:

Yes, Carol! All those good and Jesus-qualities are because of Jesus in us! When I think of Hope rising from the grave, I want to shout Hallelujah a hundred times over!

Mercy, Love, and Grace seem to always be my greatest needs for Jesus in my life! And yet, Peace, Hope, and Truth have been recently more particularly needed, because of all the unrest and violence and death we’ve faced in our nation as 2020 wound to a close and 2021 took off. Life has been so difficult, and I’m so grateful for the Lord’s presence and that he is all of those blessings and gifts and qualities for us.

Karen says:

Melinda, your words resonated with me as I’m sure many others. The way 2021 has come in on the coattails of 2020 is troubling to say the least. But to realize that Mercy, Love, Grace, Peace, Hope, Truth, Freedom, Kindness, Joy and Victory are all called, Jesus, helps us grab ahold of what matters in life the most.

Much to meditate on–that He doesn’t just show love, but He is love. And mercy and freedom and the rest personified.

Karen says:

“Personified” is a great word, Barbara. How comforting to think of all these wonderful attributes personified in our life as Jesus himself!

Love this so much! Thanks for the encouragement.

Karen says:

Appreciate your comment, Lauren!God sent Mercy from the throne room of heaven to take our place. Beaten, bruised, and pierced with nails, Mercy’s blood spilled on a cross. And Mercy bestowed forgiveness on us to cover our sins.

Yvonne Morgan says:

Beautiful. Such an incredible way to describe all the attributes of Jesus. I love that I read these first thing this morning because it has brightened my day. Thanks for sharing this good news.

Karen says:

Glad this encouraged you, Yvonne. Christ brings us compelling qualities of life when we know Him as Savior and Lord!

Lisa Blair says:

Thank you for sharing these 10 compelling attributes of Jesus, Karen!

Karen says:

You’re welcome, Lisa. I appreciate you reading and commenting! Jesus, He’s also known as love, hope, mercy, peace, victory, truth….

Anytime we put our eyes back on Jesus, there is a rich, soul-filling to be found and this post explains why! He is love, grace, hope, peace, truth and more! I loved the scriptures you used to help us see the Names of Christ and His qualities as promised in God’s Word. It reminds me of the verse in John 1, in Christ we have received grace upon grace. Blessings upon blessings are ours in Jesus Christ!

Karen says:

“Grace upon grace” is right! I saw that verse when looking for the other mentioned verses from John. So grateful Grace has a name, Jesus! God extending amazing Grace to us at such a high price, His only Son!

Nancy E Head says:

Such encouragement! Wonderful post!

Karen says:

Christ defeated death and the grave. He put the enemy under His feet. And He conquered sin. Christ fights our present battles as Victor in our spiritual warfare. Victory is His name.

Karen, this is such a confident, beautiful post. I love each of these attributes of Jesus. The ones that I need most right now are peace and grace, but I’m pondering each of these aspects of our Savior!

Karen says:

Thank you, Jeanne. Peace and grace are certainly needed, not only in our present world, but also every day on the Christian journey. God bless!

Jessica Brodie says:

Amen! There is SO much freedom in Jesus. I love this.

Karen says:

Freedom is His name! Blessings!
