A Call for Believers to Pray in 6 Ways

A Call for Believers to Pray in 6 Ways

This is a call to pray!

We need reminding how God’s supernatural power and ability far outweighs human efforts.

And we only tap into His ability through prayer.

Since the calendar pages turned to 2021, the world needs prayer more than ever.

And America so desperately needs prayer.

This call to pray includes: the pandemic, political and racial unrest in the United States and other countries, repentance, and to draw our hearts back to God as a people and a nation.

Finally, it’s a call to pray for unbelievers to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

We need reminding how God's supernatural power and ability far outweighs human efforts. And we only tap into His ability through prayer. So this is a call to pray! #Pray #Repentance #PrayForAmerica Click To Tweet

So we pray in these 6 ways:

P – Praise a living and powerful God: A Call to Pray

Heavenly Father, I praise You. You alone are God and worthy of all glory. Splendor and majesty surround Your throne. I magnify Your holy and matchless name. I worship Your beauty. Because there is no god like my God.

All of creation declares praise to the Almighty God of heaven and earth! Holy is Your name! Since You are alive and well, it is well with my soul!

R – Repent of sin in actions, words, and thoughts

Lord, forgive me of my sins. Sometimes I say, think, or do things unpleasing to You. I ask You to give me a desire to repent often and quickly. And help me repent of any missteps against You and others.

Furthermore, forgive me for going my own way and relying on my own wisdom. Instead, I desire to seek Your counsel, God, and walk in obedience to You and Your Word.

In this present godless world, I pray for humility to own my sins and make things right with You and others. I repent of any acts of injustice, dissension, discord, division, envy, jealousy, impurity, anger, rivalry, racism, or strife.

Empower me to live godly in an ungodly culture. And strengthen me to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with You (Micah 6:8).

Lord, forgive me of my sins. Empower me to live godly in an ungodly culture. And strengthen me to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with You (Micah 6:8). #Pray #Repentance Click To Tweet

A – Acknowledge the Lord is in control:  A Call to Pray

Father, the world continues to spin out of control. Chaos and a lack of peace surrounds the globe. But remind me that You are still on Your throne and in control no matter what I see, hear, and experience; no matter who holds earthly offices.

Because in an uncertain world, Lord, You are my undeniable hope, an unshakable anchor for my soul.

God, I acknowledge Your complete Lordship in my life, You sit on the throne of my heart. So I hand the reins over to You. Then, You reign supreme. Help me lay down my agenda and pick up Your will.

A Call for Believers to Pray in 6 Ways

Y – Yearn for the work of the Holy Spirit

Holy Spirit, You are welcome in my heart and life. Come commune with my spirit. Give my prayers an intimate connection to the triune God.

Overcome the works of the flesh in me and replace them with the sweetness of Your fruit. Cleanse me. Renew a right spirit in me. Reveal truth and let it cancel out the world’s falsehood.

Holy Spirit, fall fresh on me. Set my heart on fire to share the gospel, live by the Spirit, walk in the Spirit, and keep in step with the Spirit—both offline and online.

Draw my lost loved ones to Jesus for salvation. Open their spiritually blind eyes to the gospel. And help me water where seeds are planted or plant where no seed is sown in my community and any place I am called to go.

E – Equip for warfare: A Call to Pray

Jesus, thank You for not only coming to give me eternal life, but to also gift me with abundant life. A life the enemy wants to destroy and steal from me.

Let resurrection power rise up in me to recognize the schemes of the devil. Since You stand as Victor, the victory belongs to me and overcomes the deception of the evil one.

Grow me into Your image, Christ, so I display your mercy and love and grace. Most of all, help me to dress daily in the armor of God. Then, the fiery darts of the enemy fail to adversely affect my heart, mind, relationships, and how I see others. Even those I disagree with or who are different than me.

R – Remember what God has done

Lord, help me remember Your great works. Assure me that You work behind the scenes on my behalf even when it appears nothing good is happening. Although my circumstances don’t change, let me see Your footprints—how goodness and mercy always follow me.

And, Lord, help me recognize Your handprints, still visible from yesterday as they continue into tomorrow and every tomorrow. Touch my spirit and mind and soul and body. God, touch me and make me whole. Lord, touch those with Covid-19 and those suffering from great loss with Your healing power.

Remind me, Lord, how You moved mountains, parted seas, sent mana from heaven, faithfully led Your people in the wilderness, and always provided. And help me remember You’ll do it again for me. Your faithfulness is past, present, and future tense.

Lord, You were God in the beginning. You were God in 2020. So, help me let You continue to be God in 2021. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

I am praying. We all need God in every moment of life. God is ready for conversation with us.

Karen says:

I like how you said we all need God in every moment. Yes, maybe that’s what pray without ceasing really means!

I prayed these beautiful prayers you offered here, Karen, and I will continue to pray daily to my Lord and God. He will never fail us!
Blessings!

Karen says:

Martha, glad to have you alongside me in prayer! God never fails! Hallelujah!

Yes, there is power in prayer. Thank you!

Karen says:

“Grow me into Your image, Christ, so I display your mercy and love and grace. Most of all, help me to dress daily in the armor of God. Then, the fiery darts of the enemy fail to adversely affect my heart, mind, relationships, and how I see others. Even those I disagree with or who are different than me.”

These are moving, strong, and powerful prayers in each category, Karen. I prayed along as I read, as these are the prayers we need as our nation falls apart at the seams before our very eyes. As the church, we must take responsibility for our failures to strive for peace, for equality, for those in need — the refugee, the prisoner, the poor, and for our responsibility to pray for rational governance, for kings/presidents and leaders in high places. Often we don’t recognize how important our prayers are. We assume all will be well. And yet, this year taught us that all will not be well when believers act in ways unbecoming to believers and when we cease to seek the Lord in prayer and petition for our leaders and our nation. We are the body of Christ, and I pray that we will boldly go where the Lord leads and seek what the Lord would have us to seek, justice, equity, kindness, mercy, and humility.

Karen says:

Melinda, in full agreement with your words and praying in these ways. The church and believers need to lead the way for owning our sins and mistakes and begging for forgiveness from the Lord and others. THEN, seeking the Lord, His will, His plan and His holiness like never before. “God, I acknowledge Your complete Lordship in my life, You sit on the throne of my heart. So I hand the reins over to You. Then, You reign supreme. Help me lay down my agenda and pick up Your will.”

Mandy Farmer says:

Praying these things. I sounds much like what our denomination is praying this week. You aren’t by chance a Nazarene?

Karen says:

Interesting, Mandy. No, not a Nazarene. But that reimnds me when I was in Zimbabwe on missions, we worked with “Church of the Nazarene” to spread the gospel and show the Jesus Film.

J.D. Wininger says:

Amen Ms. Karen. This nation, this world, needs the fervent, effective prayers of a righteous people right now. I agree, our first step must be to get ourselves in right order with God. Only then might we petition Him with the authority of His Son. God’s blessings; and thank you for this important message ma’a.

Karen says:

J.D., Praise and repentace helps us move into petition before the Almighty’s throne of glory and splendor. “Holy Spirit, fall fresh on me. Set my heart on fire to share the gospel, live by the Spirit, walk in the Spirit, and keep in step with the Spirit—both offline and online.”

Yvonne Morgan says:

Yes, our country and world is in desperate need of prayer right now. I am praying 🙏. Thanks for the ideas of how to get started.

Karen says:

Glad you’re joining me, Yvonne. “Remind me, Lord, how You moved mountains, parted seas, sent mana from heaven, faithfully led Your people in the wilderness, and always provided. And help me remember You’ll do it again for me. Your faithfulness is past, present, and future tense.”

Karen says:

Thanks for adding these powerful verses to pray! Wonderful!

Prayer is spiritual warfare!
Let’s get into the battle!

Karen says:

Yep! We fight our battles on our knees or lifting our hands to heaven or simply in our spirits as we call out to the only One able to stand with us!

Jessica Brodie says:

Sometimes we treat prayer as a last resort, something to do when all else fails. But it’s incredibly important and a crucial first step and something to do unceasingly, as Scripture tells us. This morning, I hope you’ll join me in prayer for Ollie, my husband’s cousin, a young man who has been battling horrible stomach pain for weeks and multiple ER trips while doctors try to figure out what in the world is wrong and how to fix it. He was in the ER last night. (No word this morning yet; they are on the West Coast.) Thanks for this excellent post, Karen!

Karen says:

That’s truth, Jessica, prayer is often a last resort when we should start, continue, finish, and stay in prayer at all times! I pray Ollie is doing better and continued prayers for a diagnosis and treatment.

“Lord, I lift up Ollie to You and place Him before Your sovereign throne. I pray for a sure diagnosis and the right treatment. I ask for healing and comfort over his pain. In the name of Jesus. Amen.”

Beautiful prayers! I strive to live out Colossians 4:2 and love to refresh my prayer life. Thanks for this uplifting post!

Karen says:

Thank you, AnnMarie. Colossians 4:2 is a favorite. “Remind me, Lord, how You moved mountains, parted seas, sent mana from heaven, faithfully led Your people in the wilderness, and always provided. And help me remember You’ll do it again for me. Your faithfulness is past, present, and future tense.”

Genna says:

Thank you for this post. I am currently doing a prayer series on my blog. I would love to reference this posting in my upcoming writing. May we learn more and more each day how the Lord wants us to pray. Expanding on Michele Morin’s comment-I have found prayer as a weapon of defense to face not only the spiritual warfare, but a line of communication to know how to truly live. What an incredible gift.

Karen says:

Hey Genna, your welcome to reference this post as needed. I’m honored. And agree, prayer is the final piece of God’s armor as a defensive and offensive spiritual weapon! Thanks for commenting!

Lisa Blair says:

Great acronym: PRAYER, Karen! It reminds me of the prayer model: ACTS. I appreciate you sharing the Word of God and your personal prayers. God bless you!

Karen says:

I remember hearing about the ACTS prayer in college and I’ve always remembered to incorporate those aspects in prayer.

Great heartfelt, truth-based prayers. We need them more than ever.

Karen says:

Appreciate your comment, Barbara. “Holy Spirit, You are welcome in my heart and life. Come commune with my spirit. Give my prayers an intimate connection to the triune God.”

Nancy E Head says:

I know so many people are praying like never before. The components you list make a terrific model for us. Thanks, Karen. God bless!

Karen says:

Nancy, we definitely need a call to pray as God’s people. It really is the only way to tap into God’s power for He’s the Waymaker!

Thank you for this powerful call to prayer and for walking us through these important elements. May this message reach many hearts and stir up prayers like never before! Praying for you and your ministry, Karen!

Karen says:

That’s my hope and prayer, Melissa. And you are so considerate to mention praying for me and my ministry. I so appreciate your encouragement sweet sister. “Lord, You were God in the beginning. You were God in 2020. So, help me let You continue to be God in 2021. In the name of Jesus. Amen.”

Tai East says:

Wow! This is so encouraging and empowering, Karen! Prayer is such a vital part of our lives as believers. Thank you so much for sharing this!

Karen says:

“Vital” is the key word when it comes to prayer. Prayer’s our lifeline, our source of strength, and the power to fight spiritual battles.

Tai East says:

It absolutely is! 🙌🏾

Karen says:

Thanks, Tai. We need reminding how God’s supernatural power and ability far outweighs human efforts.

And we only tap into His ability through prayer.
