Am I Lovable? Storyline Video Reveals My Answer

Am I Lovable? Storyline Video Reveals My AnswerEver wondered if you are lovable? Or, maybe like me, you’ve questioned what it takes for others to consider you lovable.

Because we use the term love for everything from possessions and food to our favorite sports teams and celebrities.

We love ice-cream, brands, songs, books, and our favorite movies.

How to Define Love

Honestly, I use it to describe my affections for cinnamon rolls, pasta, Chai tea lattes, boots, the Hallmark Channel, and sunsets. And that’s only a few of my loves.

Still, we struggle to define love—a feeling, an emotion? In hard moments, we lose the loving feeling.

And abandonment extinguishes the emotion. Like when my dad vanished from my life for a few years.

Yet, culture woos us with a love that fades when hearts break. My heart broke after friendships dissolved and family members died including a baby in utero. I lost hope in love.

Shiny Things and People

So, for a portion of my life, I wondered, Am I lovable?

Inside chatter tried to convince me otherwise. Internal voices mocked true love. Only the lovely, the best, the deserving—basically, the cream of the crop—meet the standards.

I assumed love thrived only in shiny things and people. So…

There’s good news and God news. Although less outwardly frilly, a timeless love exists that’s unfailing and undying.

No matter what others say or do. I am lovable. You are lovable.

Jesus Christ, God’s Son, came to earth and died for us on Calvary’s cross. Why? Because…

God loves us, this we know, for the Bible tells us so. #blog #lovestory Click To Tweet

A Sure Love

Love in past, present, and future tense. God loved us in the womb. He loves us today and tomorrow and every day into the future.

God's love is past, present, and future tense. #blog #lovestory Click To Tweet

His love is a sure love…never lost, only found.

And it gives us hope in a guaranteed pledge of love that’s never eliminated from our lives.

No matter what the end results report of our experiences with other types of love. The writer of Lamentations reminds us of hope in God’s steadfast love.

It’s loyal, unwavering, unconditional, dependable, and never ceases…ever.

This I call to mind and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end. (Lamentations 3:21-22 ESV)

This jumped out at me Karen as I read your post…”His love is a sure love…never lost, only found.” I absolutely “love” this. Thank you for sharing and for being ever transparent a word that means ((of a material or article) allowing light to pass through so that objects behind can be distinctly seen.))

I love you sweet, beautiful, loving friend. You are lovable. I think about this all the time, “Lord please make me more lovable…” Your post helps so much. Thank you.

Karen says:

Thank you, sweet Marla. So grateful for a loving friend like you, and the love of Jesus that shines through you. And thankful God’s love IS sure and can never be lost, but only found. Hallelujah!

Beautiful. Yes, we are loved by Him. What a blessing!

Karen says:

We are loved, Melissa. And my favorite part? It’s a kissing-tear-wiping-make-it-better-kind-of-love. Thanks for commenting!

Karen, I have no doubt the Lord will use this to speak into someone’s heart. I am sold out to Jesus, and I STILL need this message. We all do. We need to know how much our heavenly Father loves us.
Thanks for sharing, sweet friend. Keep on shining!

Karen says:

Thank you, Beckie. Yes, I hear you. I still need confirmation often that Jesus loves me, this I know. And it gives us hope in a guaranteed pledge of love that’s never eliminated from our lives. Ever! So appreciate you commenting! Hugs!

Annie Rim says:

I love that at the end of Lamentations, a book about sorrow and recognizing suffering, the ultimate point is that we are LOVED. How different would our outlook be if we keep this at our core? Thanks for this encouraging reminder!

Karen says:

That’s good, Annie. The hope the writer of Lamentations calls to mind is God’s steadfast love. It’s hope in the kind of love that goes to the cross. Annie. You. Are. Loved.

Hi Karen,

That was an educating blog post about the concept of love and how we use it. This is also so relevant because modern culture is totally obsessed with the person we see when we look in the mirror. One of the main reason Christianity is so valuable for me is that it represents a counter-wave to looking into the mirror.

The true gospel for me is the fact that God loves me and all of us no matter how we feel about ourselves.

I could understand from your YouTube you have a twin. What’s the best thing about being a twin, in your opinion?

The story in the video touched me, and I feel sorry for your loss.

That’s a great format you use to tell your story.

God bless,
Edna Davidsen

Karen says:

Thank you, Edna. Yes, culture gives us the opposite view of authentic love. That is spot on about God loving us despite our feelings about ourselves. He loves me when I don’t love or even like myself. What great love! Edna. You. Are. Loved. 🙂

Growing up there were pros and cons to being a twin. The hardest is having our own identity. The best thing then and now is always having a playmate, close friend, etc. to do everything with. We came to Christ the same night. And we are both married to pastors. We both have a call of ministry on our lives. And a double threat to the kingdom of darkness. That’s the other best part. 🙂 Thanks so much for commenting and asking. 🙂

Beautiful! Those childhood ideas about love-ability are so hard to shake… and all the messages of American culture – that acceptance and love-ability are not a given, but must be earned on some level. At least it seems so to me…

Even when we feel so unlovable, we ARE loved!!

Thanks for the encouragement. 🙂

Karen says:

Yes, Christina, it’s a lie that we must earn the right to be loved. Oh, how He loves us. For God so loved Christina, that He gave His Son. You. Are. Loved.

Yvonne Morgan says:

I always love to be reminded that I am lovable. So often, the enemy makes us feel otherwise.

Karen says:

So true, Yvonne. We sometimes forget the enemy is at work, thinking the thoughts and feelings we have are our own. Yet, they came directly in the form of lies from the enemy. Yvonne. You. Are. Lovable.

Thank you for this reminder of the all encompassing love of God! This is especially dear when we feel unloveable. God’s love carries us through so many trying and draining circumstances. Great encouragement for the day!

Karen says:

Yes, His love carries us. Great thought, Melinda. God’s love is undying, unfailing, and never-ending. A sure love we can count on. Thanks for commenting. Melinda. You. Are. Lovable.

Love your video, Karen! Pinning and tweeting your post, friend.

Karen says:

Sarah, so appreciate your sweet words of affirmation. Our stories are a powerful part of sharing God’s love. And thanks for pinning and tweeting! Blessings!

Karen, I loved this phrase “good news and God news.” It is such incredibly good news AND God news that He loves us … enough to die for us, enough to leave us His Word and His Holy Spirit, enough to discipline us when necessary, and enough to bless us in this life and in the life to come! Thanks for sharing.

Karen says:

Thank you, Donna. It’s comforting to know that good news…the best news is God news. And oh, how He loves you and me. Amen to your thoughts. Appreciate you commenting.

Lisa notes says:

We all need these reminders OFTEN that we are indeed lovable, just as we are, because of the Father himself who created us. Thanks for sharing this, Karen.

Karen says:

Lisa, thanks for joining the conversation. And, I agree, we are lovable just as we are to God. Blessings!

Joanne Viola says:

Karen, I loved this! The video was a most precious reminder of the love of God for each of us. I am grateful to have stopped here this morning!

Karen says:

I agree, Joanne. I need that reminder of being loved by my heavenly Father often. May we never forget His great love. I so appreciate you commenting.

Kristi Ann says:

I watch your Christian Video’s and they make me cry with Happiness!!

Love Always and Shalom ( Peace ), YSIC \o/

Kristi Ann

Karen says:

Thanks so much, Kristi Ann. Tears of joy because of Jesus! Blessings!

Kristen says:

You had me when you said you use love to describe your feelings of Chai Tea Latte! 🙂

Thank you for your insightful description of how God loves. I think we struggle so much with love because we can’t grasp love beyond our humanity. We want love to be unconditional, but our humanity makes it so hard not to make it conditional. Beautiful reminders 🙂

Karen says:

Hey Kristen, so another chai tea lover, uh? 🙂

I agree, our flesh fights every day to put conditions on love. Thankful God’s love is unconditional and is past, present, and future tense! Thanks for commenting!

Lesley says:

This is a great video! Thanks for sharing your story. Knowing we are loved by God makes such a difference!

Karen says:

Lesley, thank you. So grateful God IS real and oh, how He loves us!
