Make a Wish: Revealing My Top 7 Wishes in Life

Make a Wish: Revealing My Top 7 Wishes in Life, Adobe Spark ImageGo ahead…make a wish. Because we all love wishes.

Whether for a birthday or the gift of a wish-making moment, there’s a glorious thing about wishes.

You can wish for anything.

Wishes I Dared to Dream

And anything means anything, you know.

So, it’s exactly the kind of stuff I dared to dream on the hunch that maybe a few of my “anythings” might make it to reality.

Some came true.

But others fizzled as quick as I blew out the candles.

I made wishes running the spectrum of valiant and noble to downright self-centered and princess-ish. Wishes I patiently waited on. And the ones I threw a childish tantrum over.

Yet, deep in the depths of my soul, this girl’s always been a dreamer—wishing for the subtle pleasures of life and big ole’ ginormous things only God can pull off.

Looking back, I see the Lord’s tender mercies in my top wishes. In case you didn’t know, God’s the biggest dreamer of all. He dreams for each of us.

So, me and God, we dream together.

Countdown of My Top 7 Wishes

7.  The love of my father.

My biological father’s absence for a portion of my childhood created a void. But my dad walked back into my life. Knowing him again and letting his love for me grow, fulfilled a deep longing.

6.  Talent and skills.

Make a Wish: Revealing My Top 7 Wishes in Life, Adobe Spark ImageTo be a rock star. Just kidding. Yet, I dreamed of being good at something—really good. Gifts and skills others knew me for and sharing them to help people. So, God instilled in me the love of communication…the love of words. I’m a speaker, writer, and blogger—a communicator to the core.

5.  Passionate career.

I pondered what field to study in college and decided on communications. There’s no perfect job. Still, how fantastic to want to get out of bed in the mornings. To find this, Do what you love and love what you do. My rewarding work experience includes children’s programs and marketing. And in my calling from the Lord, I’m blessed with speaking and writing opportunities. I’m currently working on a book I’m passionate about in every way.

4.  A bride in a long, white gown.

In my younger days, I resolved not to marry. But the Lord changed my wishes. Desiring to not only be the bride of Christ, but also the bride of a godly man. Guess what? On a college campus, I met the man of my dreams. And I became his bride. I walked down a church isle in a long, white wedding gown.

On to the Top 3 Wishes

3.  A mother.

The love of children. The good Lord blessed me with a daughter and son. Now, I’m a grandmother. Being a Mom and Mimi are two of the best jobs on the planet.

2.  A purpose and higher calling.

A difference maker. Leave my mark on the world. A legacy. Howard Hendricks said, “There are three kinds of people in the world; those who make things happen, those who watch what happens, and those who wondered what happened.” I heard Hendricks, a theological professor, speak at a ministry event in college. I decided that day, I would strive to “make things happen” through Christ. It’s the kind of person and Christian woman I wanted to be. To fulfill God’s high calling on my life. I hope of all the legacies I leave behind, I leave a spiritual legacy full of God’s grace to a world who needs Christ.

My Top Wish

1.  Life significance.

Why am I here? Why was I born? The answer to life itself. And I’ve found it. The answer. At sixteen, I found Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior. It’s my number one wish.

My number one wish for you? I wish you...Jesus. #Jesus #wish Click To Tweet

Oh my goodness…I love this…and after reading all the way to the end…I see you participate in Kelly Balarie. I was looking up scriptures this morning and came across her blog…I used the ones she had in her blog…how awesome is that…I really hope she doesn’t mind I listed her as the source. I love how God connects his children…I love you Karen. The calling God gave you in communication is the perfect one for you…as well as others…and I am so thankful you are obedient to that call!! You bless me every day. Thank you Jesus for giving my sister, your daughter, this beautiful gift to share with us! Amen!

Wishes are blessings incognito! <3

Karen says:

Marla, thank you sweet friend. I love how God changes our wishes and dreams to match His. And that’s great about finding Kelly’s blog…I’m sure it’s fine if you cited her as the source. May you keep wishing big ole’ ginormous dreams that only God can pull off!

Larry Johnson says:

Absolutely love this post!! There not only some real wisdom here, but some insight into who you are a very precious and beautiful lady.
One thing you said, ‘There’s no perfect job’. I don’t totally agree. I think there is a perfect ‘job’ for everybody (not the same job though). Marc Anthony once said, ‘If you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life.’ I had two jobs that I really loved. (I left the first one because we sold our family-owned business.) The other I was in for 24 years until I retired. I not only enjoyed, even looked forward to, going to work every day: to me it was fun. In both cases I really had the perfect job – for me.
I really believe that the perfect job is out there for everyone. But, if and when you find it you’ll never work again. So maybe it’s not really a job after all – it’s just plain fun!

Karen says:

Thanks for commenting and sharing your thoughts, Larry. Yes, I get what you’re saying about perfect jobs. Love the Anthony quote. I guess I meant every job often comes with pros and cons, good and bad, but getting up every morning and being excited and passionate about what you do is the most wonderful thing. Now that I’m concentrating the most on ministry in speaking and writing, I’m more fulfilled than every before. So thankful God uses us for His purpose and His kingdom work. Blessings!

Christin says:

Such great thoughts! I also wanted to be a “rock star” (well, more like a DIVA) in my younger years…praise god for his divine intervention there! I think of the verse on Psalm 37:4, about delighting in the Lord and he will give us the desires of our heart. As we seek the Lord and delight in him, he changes our desires into what HE desires, and makes our dreams that line up with his will a reality!

Karen says:

Christin, I’m sure you were and still are Diva material. 😉 I love Psalm 37:4 and it is so appropriate to this theme. The Lord changing our dreams and wishes in line with His heart is crucial on the Christian journey. Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts!

I’ve always believed the best dreams should be something only God can pull off for us. And isn’t it incredible what he does!

Karen says:

I agree, Donna! God-dreams where the Lord does all the work are the best of all. And He gets all the glory for pulling them off. Thanks so much for contributing to the conversation.

Sarah says:

One of my biggest wishes and hopes in life is to be a mommy. I have an adult stepdaughter but she doesn’t like me. And I wasn’t able to raise her. I’m only 32. I still want desperately to have a baby.

Karen says:

Oh, Sarah. I’m sorry about all your family dynamics with your stepdaughter. And I’m praying to the God of all hope to let you be a mom. That the Lord would see fit to grant that desire of your heart. 🙂
