Pleading the Blood of Jesus Christ

Pleading the Blood of Jesus Christ

Pleading the blood started thousands of years ago with God’s people.

But it has more to do with us today than you might think.

First, let’s rewind to the past. A powerful Bible story describes much blood being spilt.

In Exodus 12, the Israelites put blood from a lamb without blemish on two doorposts and the panel above the door of each house.

The Lord’s Passover.

The lamb’s blood provided protection from the final plague. God brought plagues on Pharaoh and the land of Egypt for refusing to release His people from slavery. This particular plague meant every firstborn male, people and animals, would die.

“The blood shall be a sign for you, on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you, when I strike the land of Egypt.” Exodus 12:13 (ESV)

After that fatal night, Pharaoh let the people go. And the Lord instructed His people to celebrate the Passover every year.

Blood of the Perfect Lamb of God

Years later, a perfect Lamb without spot or blemish once again provided passover blood. Jesus, God’s Son, willingly gave His life and blood for spiritual death to passover God’s children. Physical death may strike, but spiritual death cannot touch those in Christ.

“For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.” 1 Peter 1:18-19 (NIV)

Pleading the Blood Brings Life

Look at what the Lord told Moses:

“For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one’s life.” Leviticus 17:11 (NIV)

God set up the sacrificial system and Levitical priests. Because only the shedding of blood made atonement for sins. These sacrifices pointed to the coming of Jesus. Christ became the ultimate High Priest and final sacrifice for sins as noted in Hebrews.

Pleading the Blood of Jesus Christ

“He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption.” Hebrews 9:12 (NIV)

“Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God.” Hebrews 10:11-12 (NIV)

Power in Pleading the Blood

The blood:

canceled our sin debt

provided salvation

purchased eternal life

reconciled us to God

and recovered everything the enemy stole from us.

Hallelujah!

“Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.” Hebrews 10:19-22 (NIV)

Pleading the Blood

Since we know there’s power and life in the blood of Jesus, let’s apply to our lives in the present.

Mentors, teachers, and pastors encourage us to plead the blood of Jesus. Or to bring it between us and the enemy. And as a covering for spiritual warfare in our lives including difficult circumstances.

And like God’s people painted doorposts with blood of a lamb, we practice pleading the blood of Jesus. We plead it over our homes, families, children, communities, bodies, health, workplaces, schools, nation, churches, and God’s people.

In fact, everything and everyone could benefit from pleading the blood.

Mary Sayler says:

PTL! Even for those of us familiar with the above Bible verses, your bringing them together brings new light to this vital truth. Powerful! And surely needed as we pray over our nation and the church throughout the world, especially in such a divisive time.

Thanks, Karen. May God continue to bless and inspire you in Jesus’ Name.

Karen says:

Glad this inspired you, Mary! Praise Jesus for that and for His passover blood that continues to work in a mighty way in our lives. May we remember the authority we possess to plead the blood. God bless, Mary!

By the blood of Jesus, we are saved for all time, Karen. May His blood cover all whom we love and cherish, and reach those who have yet to know God’s power.
Blessings!

Karen says:

In agreement with that prayer, Martha. Let’s plead the blood over our loved ones and those lost who need the blood to cover them. God bless.

A powerful and inspirational post, Karen. I love the reminder of the connection with departing Egypt and the Passover, all signs that impacted the Jewish people until this day. They left Egypt. They experienced the Passover and continue to celebrate that day. Then they left Babylon after that captivity. The blood of Jesus is uniquely tied to the blood of the Passover, for His blood paid for their freedom from bondage, and His blood continues to pay for our freedom from the bondage of sin and oppression.

Karen says:

I love how you worded your comment, Melinda. Thankful the blood of Jesus continues to pay for our freedom from the bondage of sin and oppression. We are free in Christ! The passover blood never loses it’s power! Hallelujah!

Thank you for sharing this powerfully historical event with us. The founding of Passover with all of its blood and the implications for the firstborn is tied tightly to what we see in Jesus when He gives up His blood and is crucified to pay for our debts and sins that could never be atoned for in any other way. Thank you, Jesus!

Karen says:

Yes, thank you, Jesus! I’m so grateful for the precious and powerful blood of Jesus and what it can accomplish! I hope we continue to realize the access we have to pleading the blood and encourage God’s people to do the same. It’s often overlooked and not thought about enough these days. Always appreciate your insight, Melinda.

J.D. Wininger says:

Amen! This world may turn its back on God, His children will not. I’ve actually been considering adding blood red paint across my doorposts to symbolically show where my allegiance is found, in Christ. This world may take my life one day, but it can never take my soul. It has already been freely given when I laid it at the Cross of Christ!

Karen says:

J.D., I’ve never thought of that-the blood red paint. I like to pray specific prayers over my home and I’ve heard of people anointing the doors of their home inside and out to keep the enemy at bay. But pleading the blood sometimes gets lost in the shuffle of everything. And it’s such a powerful prayer that we have the authority to pray. God bless!

Rebecca says:

I really love this post. I love all of your posts. God bless you.

Karen says:

That’s very kind and encouraging, Rebecca. Thank you. “For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.” 1 Peter 1:18-19 (NIV)

Amen. We are saved by the blood of Christ. Thank you for this inspiring message.

Karen says:

Melissa, I’m grateful for the power and saving blood of Jesus.

Yvonne Morgan says:

Amen Karen. This is an important and wonderful message. We all need the saving blood of Christ

Karen says:

So thankful for the blood! “For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.” 1 Peter 1:18-19 (NIV)

Jessica Brodie says:

Amen. Praise Jesus we ALL can be saved because of his blood sacrifice!

Karen says:

oh yes, the Lamb of God who shed His blood for us.

Joanne Viola says:

A wonderful post. May we remember this important aspect of prayer. There is such power in the blood of Jesus and it is as powerful today as it was in biblical times. Thank you for this reminder, Karen.
**And now I am humming Andre Crouch’s song, The Blood Will Never Lose Its Power.

Karen says:

I love that song, Joanne. And you’re right, pleading the blood is just as important today as it’s ever been! I’m thankful for the blood, so thankful.

[…] Last week we looked at, Pleading the Blood of Jesus Christ. […]

Karen, loved this post. I hadn’t thought back as far as when God first initiated Passover for pleading the blood. I love the truths and the reminders of the power that is in the blood.

Karen says:

Thank you, Jeanne. I pray we continue to connect the Passover blood in our lives today and the power the blood of the perfect Lamb of God provides.
