7 Things Our Souls Search For

7 Things Our Souls Search For

Do you search for things?

Because most of us search for items almost daily.

Like when our husband questions the whereabouts of black dress socks or a t-shirt (hopefully not to wear together).

Or our teen wonders where the car keys are.

We try to locate our cell phone. Maybe it’s the pen we need to jot down an important note.

Perhaps our toddler misplaces her favorite toy (this makes for a traumatic day).

And the needed spice for dinner’s main dish is somewhere in this kitchen.

But not only are we in need of tangible stuff to function in our daily routine.

Our souls search for the intangible items that make life full and meaningful.

Here are 7 things our souls search for and what God’s Word says about each.

Searching for Hope?

Every soul in the world searches for hope at some point in life. Yet, hope the world offers eventually fizzles and fades away. But real and lasting hope only comes through God.

“For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him.” Psalm 62:5

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” Romans 15:13

(Scripture ESV, emphasis added)

Searching for Peace?

Peace isn’t a commodity we purchase, but Jesus purchased peace for us on the cross. God is peace, He is what we search for.

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6

“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.” Isaiah 26:3

(Scripture NIV, emphasis added)

Searching for Grace?

We speak about gracious people and giving grace to others. But grace started with God.

“So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son.” Ephesians 1:6

God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.” Ephesians 2:8

“So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.” Hebrews 4:16

(Scripture NLT, emphasis added)

Searching for Mercy?

7 Things Our Souls Search For

I don’t know about you, but I need mercy from others and desire to dispense mercy. Once again, our merciful heavenly Father meets this soul need.

“He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit.” Titus 3:5

“Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.” 1 Peter 2:10

(Scripture ESV, emphasis added)

Searching for Love?

We come into this world needing love. And the Lord is not only the author of love, He’s the lover of our soul.

“How precious is your constant love, O God!” Psalm 36:7a

“Yet day by day the Lord also pours out his steadfast love upon me.” Psalm 42:8a

(Scripture TLB, emphasis added)

Searching for Goodness?

Have you ever wondered if there was anything good in the world? Any goodness out there somewhere? Since the beginning, God called what He made, Good. This includes us. So thankful we serve a good, good Father.

“Surely goodness and mercy and unfailing love shall follow me all the days of my life.” Psalm 23:6a

“You have [already] tasted the goodness and gracious kindness of the Lord.” 1 Peter 2:3b

“I would have despaired had I not believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” Psalm 27:13

(Scripture AMP, emphasis added)

Searching for Eternal Life?

The number one intangible thing our soul needs is life!

“And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” John 17:3

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

(Scripture ESV, emphasis added)

Jesus is the answer.

Everything our soul searches for is found in Jesus.

Hope? Jesus. Peace? Jesus. Grace? Jesus. Mercy? Jesus. Love? Jesus. Goodness? Jesus. Eternal life? Jesus.

Karen says:

Thanks, Ava. Everything our soul searches for is found in Jesus.

Hope? Jesus. Peace? Jesus. Grace? Jesus. Mercy? Jesus. Love? Jesus. Goodness? Jesus. Eternal life? Jesus.

Absolutely, Karen! Jesus is the answer to all those searching questions and more.
Blessings!

Karen says:

Jesus is the answer to what we search for, what our souls long for, and every spiritual need!

Susan Shipe says:

I never lose sight of HOPE – I know right where to go for a fresh supply!!!

Karen says:

Me too, Susan. Because Hope has a name. It’s Jesus.

J.D. Wininger says:

Amen! All wonderful blessings; especially when we remember their source. Loved this post Ms. Karen. I also love how God gives us things our soul is searching for; sometimes before we even realize we need it. Wisdom, discernment, etc. come to mind. God’s blessings gentle friend.

Karen says:

Yes, “even before we realize we need it.” He knows what we need, when we need it most, and the best way to provide it in our lives. Like how you added a few other things. All provided by the Almighty. Thanks for your kind words, J.D.

Cathy Baker says:

What a great source of hope, Karen!

Karen says:

Thankful this encouraged you in hope, Cathy. “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” Romans 15:13 ESV

Since 2019, I’ve been standing on Psalm 23:6a. Goodness and mercy keep finding me, too!

Karen says:

That’s great, Jerralea! One of my favorites! Goodness and Mercy are always following us, their footprints are always evident in our lives.

Lynn says:

So many wonderful scriptures to meditate on God’s provisions for us. Thank you for gathering them together here to fill us with His word.

Karen says:

You’re welcome, Lynn. Thanks for stopping by and adding your thoughts to the conversation. “Yet day by day the Lord also pours out his steadfast love upon me.” Psalm 42:8a TLB

An excellent post, Karen. Jesus is our source of hope. It’s so easy to become overwhelmed by pandemic life, politics, crises at the border, family conflicts, physical ailments. When we do, we can turn back to him. There he is, always ready to hold us and to help us. What a Savior! All of our hope is in him!

Karen says:

So true, Melinda. Every soul in the world searches for hope at some point in life. Yet, hope the world offers eventually fizzles and fades away. But real and lasting hope only comes through God.

Mandy Farmer says:

I’ve been meditating on John 10:10 today about abundant life. Thinking of how to share my thoughts. Your post is giving me some great points!

Karen says:

So glad, Mandy. Abundant life started the moment we asked Jesus to be our Lord and Savior. Sometimes we either forget that truth or believe it starts after this life. But it’s for the here and now.

All we need is found in Him! Amen!

Karen says:

Oh, yes, Barbara! “God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.” Ephesians 2:8 NLT

I am thankful we can seek Him and find His love and comfort. Thank you for always sharing inspiring and encouraging messages.

Karen says:

Thanks for your kind words, Melissa. “For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him.” Psalm 62:5 ESV

What a beautiful reminder of what truly matters! We do search for many things in this life, but nothing compares to finding Jesus and all that he provides!

Karen says:

Absolutely nothing compares to the matchless name of Jesus, Marcie!

Yes, Jesus is the answer to every need we have. I am thankful He knows my needs before I do. Thank you for sharing!

Karen says:

Stephanie, Jesus does know our needs and fills each one with His provision and himself. Hallelujah!

You’ve accuarately captured all that humans truly need!

Karen says:

Appreciate your comment, Nancy. So thankful the Lord provides these and any soul needs we long for.

Lisa Blair says:

So well stated! I appreciated all your scripture references. And yes, “Everything our soul searches for is found in Jesus.”

Karen says:

Glad this encouraged you, Lisa. Our souls need these intangible items that make life full and meaningful.

Karen, what a great collection of verses and truths our souls need. And yes, ultimately, each of these is found in Jesus. May we be quick to turn to Him in all of life’s circumstances!

Karen says:

Jeanne, turning to him first is key to satisfying our soul’s deepest desires. Thanks for stoppy by and leaving your thoughts.

When we have Jesus we have it all. These verses are a wonderful reminder of all we have in Him.

Karen says:

Love that, Janice. Jesus is our all in all.

Yvonne Morgan says:

Wonderful post Karen. You shared all the things we need for our walk of faith. Thanks for sharing your wisdom

Karen says:

Yvonne, everything our soul searches for is found in Jesus.

Hope? Jesus. Peace? Jesus. Grace? Jesus. Mercy? Jesus. Love? Jesus. Goodness? Jesus. Eternal life? Jesus.

Jessica Brodie says:

So good, Karen–whatever we seek, God will provide.

Karen says:

Thank you, Jessica. Jesus is the answer for everything our soul needs.

Oh Karen, how my heart was overflowing as I read your words! Yes, everything we need and everything our soul longs for is found in Jesus. Only Jesus. I am praying for some of our loved ones to turn to Him for the hope they need. May His light shine into every shadowed soul today!

Karen says:

Forever grateful for how Jesus meets our every soul need, and until our cup overflows. “So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son.” Ephesians 1:6, NLT

Amen, Karen. We have so much in a relationship with God. And even before we trust Him, we have His mercy and grace. What a wonderful God and Father! Oh, that I would lean on Him more.

Sadly, our culture has become un-tethered to the Source of all things. We need to pray that they desire to attach themselves back to the one who created them, God. He has so many blessings to give, as you rightly point out in this post, if people would only reach out. I am praying for this!

~ linda says:

Each and every one of those is in my searches from day to day or in the week, month, year. A constant need is there, and, praise God, that He meets each and every need in the One Who is each of those. Thank you for great Scriptures to live and walk by!

Thank you for the reminder that Jesus can really be the answer to everything!

Karen, these are 7 things our souls search for. I cannot imagine living without these 7. As I was reading this I kept thinking of a world, or a place, where these 7 things do not exist. What popped into my mind, was hell. Living without these 7 things would not be a life worth living or a place worth living in. Once again, He provides all we need.

Anita Ojeda says:

Yes! We all long for those things and I’m so glad God has the answer to each of our longings. I might add an eighth one—community or connections. Jesus even left us with a model for connecting with others through his disciples and the early church.

Even as believers, we need to keep turning our eyes toward Christ and resolving to place all our hope in him.

Paula Short says:

Amen Karen, ” Everything our soul searches for is found in Jesus.” Indeed. Amen and again I say Amen. So wonderfully spoken glorifying our God. Thank you. Blessings

Joanne Viola says:

“Everything our soul searches for is found in Jesus.” Amen!

Lois Flowers says:

Amen, Karen. God is faithful to provide all that our souls long for and need, isn’t He? And you can adding reading glasses to your list of things people search for. Or maybe that’s just me? 🙂

Karen says:

Hey Lois, that’s true, and I think glasses in general people often search for. Thankful the Lord provides what we need and satisfies our souls like nothing else.
