7 Ways God’s the Most Faithful Father

These words pop in my mind when I think of fathers.

And if you know anything about my story or have followed me for a while. Then you know my earthly father abandoned me for part of my childhood.

When he reappeared in my life, he was a self-proclaimed atheist. My dad held no belief in God, much less the idea of a heavenly Father who loves us and never leaves His children.

Yet, after sixteen years of me praying for him, my dad finally believed in God and accepted Christ as Savior.

He passed away in 2010. So, I’m always a little tear-filled, a tad heart-broken, and a bit soul-grieved this time of year. Because I miss so many things about him.

I miss my dad’s presence in my life. Never able to talk to him in person or on the phone. I miss making him a lemon pie every birthday, every Thanksgiving, and every Father’s Day.

Still, I celebrate three fathers every year. My biological dad in heaven, Gene. And my first stepdad, Wendell. They will both always have a special place in my heart.

Wait. Who’s the third father?

As we honor fathers this week, I decided to concentrate on my heavenly Father in my blog post. He’s the third mentioned, but first in my life.

As we celebrate fathers, we're reminded of how much our heavenly Father loves and cares for us. #fathers #blog Click To Tweet

A Faithful Father

7 ways God’s always and forever the most faithful Father.

(1) He loves big.

“See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are” 1 John 3:1a.

(2) He cares.

“Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you” 1 Peter 5:7.

(3) He listens.

“And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him” 1 John 5:14-15.

“For what great nation is there that has a god so near to it as the Lord our God is to us, whenever we call upon him?” Deuteronomy 4:7.

His desire for all is “that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us” Acts 17:27.

Faithful in Provision and Promise

(5) He provides.

The rich are not to “set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy” 1 Timothy 6:17b.

“And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus” Philippians 4:19.

(6) He keeps His promises.

“Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations” Deuteronomy 7:9.

Speaking of Abraham, “No unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised” Romans 4:20-21.

(7) He fulfills His purpose.

“I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me” Psalm 57:2.

God has my best interest at heart and always fulfills His purpose for my life. #father #blog Click To Tweet

Faithful to His Word

One last thought about the heavenly Father.

God’s Word is not blown out of proportion. What He says, He means. What He promises, He will do. #father #promise Click To Tweet

We are blessed to be children of God. He loves us, comforts us, cares for us and never leaves us. My Daddy went to Heaven on Easter Sunday, April 12, 1998. I miss him very much. He was a true gentleman.

Karen says:

Melissa, sure you miss your dad too. So thankful our heavenly Father continues to occupy those void places with His love and presence.

Yvonne says:

What great words for us to remember for Fathers Day. My dad went to be with the Lord almost 4 years ago and I miss him. Now both my fathers (heavenly and earthly) are together.

Karen says:

Yes, Yvonne. How comforting to know our earthly fathers are with the heavenly Father. He remains faithful to us always and forever. 🙂

Beautiful! I love that you included He fulfills His purpose. I’ve really been trying to dwell on that lately. Thanks for the reminder!

Karen says:

Thanks, Emily. I like to reflect on that point also. “I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me” Psalm 57:2.

Annie Rim says:

I love the way you honor your father, Karen. And it’s so encouraging that, even if we’ve experienced the best father here on earth, God fulfills that role in such a deeper and wider capacity.

Karen says:

Amen, Annie. God is a Father in His own league and always steps in with His great love and faithfulness where any support and love is lacking in our lives.

Lynn says:

We can celebrate our Father in heaven every day, can’t we?! What a beautiful story of redemption regarding your earthly father. And the power of prayer. I see God pointing me to #7–He fulfills his purpose no matter our circumstances.

Karen says:

It is a powerful story of redemption and the power of prayer. The Father will fulfill His purpose for you and your life, Lynn. Thanks for commenting.

Becky Smith says:

All of these verses are uplifting, but one always stands out to me: ““See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are.” One version says “See how great a love” and this always moves my heart and touches it! One of my favorite father memories is sitting with my father’s arms around me, watching Billy Graham crusades together. We never missed one. Precious memories!

Karen says:

I love that memory with your dad, Becky. So sweet. And what great love…the kind of love unmatched here on earth from our Father in heaven. Thanks for sharing and commenting.

Amen, Karen, God the Father of all will never, ever let us down.
Blessings to you!

Karen says:

Never, Martha! Our heavenly Father provides stability for the hearts of His children. Blessings!

Marla ONeill says:

I love you sweet sister…you know I know…God is a good, good father…xo <3

Karen says:

Yes! Yes, He is good and faithful and loving and loyal and merciful and steadfast and stable and present…the list goes on and on and on. Love you, Marla!

On Fathers’ Day we can look horizontally and honour the fathers in our lives, but what a good reminder that we must also look vertically and honor our Heavenly Father. A Father who loves us with such a passion, steadfastness, gracefilled, merciful love. How blessed we are to be called His children! Thanks for the post!

Karen says:

Well said, Anne. We celebrate all fatherhood, but remember the greatest Father of all.

Excellent post for people (like me) who struggle on Father’s Day. Sharing on Pinterest and Twitter, friend.

Karen says:

Thank you, Sarah. Appreciate you sharing that with me. I struggle too. Let’s personalize the list for you.

The Father loves Sarah big.
He cares for Sarah.
The heavenly Father listens to Sarah.
Sarah’s heavenly Father stays close to her.
Her Father provides everything Sarah needs.
Sarah’s Father in heaven keeps His promises to her and…
He fulfills His purpose for Sarah.

Brittany says:

I am so grateful for my Heavenly Father providing for every area of my life. He makes me a whole person, completes all the missing pieces.

Karen says:

Amen! Yes, He does fill in the gaps, Brittany. Let’s remind our hearts of these great truths often!

Since none of us have a perfect earthly father, focusing on our Heavenly Father meets a deep need for fatherly love. He is perfectly loving, as you conveyed so well with verses to support each point. This is a valuable post, because of how you presented all of this information. I’m encouraged and uplifted and feeling fully loved by God as I read this!

Karen says:

Oh, I’m so happy to hear your words, Melinda. If we could just get the full picture of how much our heavenly Father loves us and takes care of us, keep it close, and never let it slip from our heart. Then we would walk in the fullness of His love every day. Blessings!

Kristi Ann says:

I lost my daddy in 2003 due too Cancer and ALS, in the End he believed in Christ-Messiah Jesus-Yeshua as his Saviour!! I miss him very much!!

God Bless All my Sisters and Brothers in Christ-Messiah Jesus-Yeshua and Your Families and Friends!!

Love Always and Shalom ( Peace ), YSIC \o/

Kristi Ann

Karen says:

Kristi Ann, sorry about losing your father. But praise the Lord he knew Christ as Savior! Because we don’t grieve as those without hope…we will see our dads again one day! Hallelujah! Sending love and hugs over you this weekend.

Great post, Karen. God bless your heart this weekend. My father loved lemon pie too. I’ve made it a tradition to celebrate November 1, his birthday, with lemon meringue pie. Thanks for writing.

Karen says:

That’s neat Nancy, how your dad loved lemon pie also. This lemon pie was my grandmother’s (dad’s mom) own recipe. It’s a lemon cream instead of tart flavor. It’s really rich, but oh so good. Blessings over your heart this weekend too.

Hi Karen!

I was caught up by reading about your father. Sure, we have a faithful father. I was encouraged by this blog post because it touched something that has a personal perspective for me.

God bless
Edna Davidsen

Karen says:

Hi Edna, so thankful this post resonated with you. As we gear up to celebrate fathers, dad-child relationships may be joyful, sad, broken, or absent. But whatever our earthly-father experience, God, the Father, can’t be compared. He occupies our barren spots like none other. And earthly fathers can strive to model the heavenly Father’s love and care. Blessings!

I love this blog post! It’s very near to my own heart. My father was not a part of my childhood and it was hard on me. Long study short, I met Jesus and he has shown me what a true faithful father is in my life. Your points are spot on!

Karen says:

We’re kindred spirits, Marcie. To have had an absent father during important, formative years. Thanks for sharing your story. Love to hear the power of Christ in the lives of others. So grateful when I met Jesus at 16, I was no longer a spiritual orphan. But adopted by the heavenly Father. We’re daughters of the King! Hallelujah!

What a joy to be reminded of God’s faithfulness. Thanks for sharing!

Karen says:

What glorious love and care from a good Father full of faithfulness and mercy. Thanks for stopping by to comment. Blessings!
