The Word of the Lord Still Changes Lives

The Word of the Lord Still Changes Lives

As a lover of words, I enjoy reading, writing, blogging, and speaking. Except for blogging (which wasn’t a thing), words have filled my life since I was a young girl. I entered my first oratorical contest in 4th grade and made it all the way to the state level. And a creative writing contest soon followed.

Yet, the words inspired by the Holy Spirit in God’s Word changes lives from the inside out.

The Word of the Lord is not merely information for our mind, but transformation for our whole being.

And I espeically like how Psalm 19 describes the Word of the Lord.

“The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul; The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.” Psalm 19:7-8 (NASB)

Notice the descriptions of the Word as perfect, sure, right, and pure. Now that’s a book worth reading. One that can completely overhaul our lives in the best way possible.

Also, these verses give four descriptions of God’s Word and four results for our lives.

  • Law of the Lord – perfect – restoring the soul
  • Testimony of the Lord – sure – making wise the simple
  • Precepts of the Lord – right – rejoicing the heart
  • Commandment of the Lord – pure – enlightening the eyes

1. God’s Word restores what life breaks.

The “law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul.”

God’s Word doesn’t just guide—it heals and restores inner life. It brings wholeness where sin, stress, and brokeness have fractured us.

“He restores my soul…” Psalm 23:3 (ESV)

Healing for the brokenhearted (Isaiah 61:1).

Rest for the weary (Matthew 11:28).

Do you need your soul restored? Your brokeness made whole?

2. The Word of the Lord gives certainty in an uncertain world.

“The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.”

Scripture is reliable truth, not shifting opinion. Because truth is not up for debate. God’s holy Word wins hands down. And truth is not relative.

It brings wisdom to the simple. Those who seek and desire it.

“For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.” Proverbs 2:6 (ESV)

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” James 1:5 (ESV)

Do you need to ask the Lord for wisdom? Have you searched the Bible for wisdom?

3. God’s Word produces deep joy.

“The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart.”

Obedience isn’t meant to be burdensome—it leads to joy and alignment with God’s Word.

God’s ways are “right,” they fit into our life as He designed it.

“These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.” John 15:11 (ESV)

“I rejoice in following your statutes.” Psalm 119:14a (NIV)

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13 (NIV)

Let’s pray the Lord’s Word brings us joy as we seek to follow His percepts. Because they go hand in hand.

“The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart.” (Psalm 19:8) Obedience isn’t meant to be burdensome—it leads to joy and alignment with God's Word. God’s ways are “right," they fit into our life as He designed it. Share on X

4. The Word brings clarity.

“The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.”

Let’s remember how Scripture gives us discernment and perspective. It clears spiritual fog and reshapes how we see life.

“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people.” Ephesians 1:18 (NIV)

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Psalm 119:105 (ESV)

God’s commandments and teachings are a lamp and light (Proverbs 6:23).

Are there times you need clarity and enlightenment on the things of life?
