Walking in the Spirit Every Day of the Week

What if walking in the Spirit became part of our daily lives? And we lived a life consistent in words and actions Sunday through Saturday.

I relate the the Apostle Paul’s words in Romans 7 when he describes doing what he doesn’t want to do, and not doing what he wants to do. And the Lord is the only One who can deliver him from this dilemma—and deliver us.

So when Paul addresses not giving in to the desires of the flesh in Galatians 5, walking in the Spirit is the antidote.

Let’s dig into what it looks like to walk in the Spirit daily.

Walking in the Spirit Requires the Holy Spirit’s Power

The Holy Spirit empowers believers to think, speak, and act in ways that honor Christ every day. We need the Holy Spirit’s power to live faithfully.

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8 (ESV)

When Our Actions Match Our Words

People notice whether our conduct aligns with our profession of faith. When our lives reflect the truth we proclaim, we are a living testimony.

“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” James 1:22 (ESV)

Daily Walking in the Spirit

Sometimes people confine faith in God to Sunday worship. Instead, we demonstrate real faith in our homes, workplaces, relationships, and decisions throughout the week.

“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Colossians 3:17 (NIV)

Living and walking in the Spirit keeps us out of slavery to our flesh and sinful desires. “But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.” Galatians 5:16 (ESV)

The Fruit of the Spirit Shows Genuine Growth

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.” Galatians 5:22-25 (ESV)

Evidence of a life yielded to the Spirit includes love, patience, kindness, self-control, and faithfulness. Consistency grows as we remain connected to Christ.

Our Daily Lives Are a Testimony: Walking in the Spirit

When believers live with integrity from Sunday to Saturday, they become visible examples of God’s transforming power.

“I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” Ephesians 4:1-3 (ESV)

Worship is not only singing at church, but also a daily surrender to the Lord. It’s walking in the Spirit, repenting of sin, seeking God’s face—our lives are to be a spiritual act of worship. Romans 12:1-2 describes the surrendered life. We are not to conform to this world, but to offer ourselves as a living sacrifice.

But it’s hard to be a living sacrifice when I keep crawling off the altar. Being more of the world than of Jesus and the Spirit.

The Spirit-Filled Life

A Spirit-filled life means we faithfully follow Christ throughout the week. The same Lord we worship on Sunday desires to guide our words, attitudes, and actions on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and every day thereafter. Through the Holy Spirit, we can live a faith that is visible, genuine, and consistent from Sunday to Saturday.

Because salvation never has a period after it. Life in Christ and as God’s child continues throughout our earthly life.

I desire to walk daily with the Lord, step by step, moment by moment; breathing in His grace and breathing out His praise. And walking in God’s Word and the Holy Spirit, repenting quickly and authentically.

“Lord, empower me through the Holy Spirit to live a Christian life that’s consistent in words and actions Sunday to Saturday. Holy Spirit, let my walk match my talk. Since I confess You as my Lord, help me to walk in You everywhere I go and in everything I do each day. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
