When People Say I Take Jesus Too Far

When People Say I Take Jesus Too Far

Some people say I take Jesus too far. But it’s an affirmation for a true follower of Christ. Because you can’t take Jesus too far.

Instead, it’s about living life for Jesus. It’s about our life online and offline pointing others to Jesus. And it’s about never being ashamed of Jesus Christ or our faith.

Take Jesus Too Far Versus Casual Faith

Maybe you’ve noticed how the world is comforatable with causal faith. Like to stay quiet and private about spiritual beliefs.

You see, wholehearted devotion makes people uncomfortable. So when we follow Jesus openly, others often label it as “too much.”

But Jesus never asked for half-hearted commitment to Him.

In fact, He asks for all of us—our whole heart and devotion.

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” Matthew 22:37b (ESV)

Also, Jesus didn’t call people to admire Him from a distance. He called people to deny themselves, take up their cross, and follow Him. Real discipleship has always looked radical to the culture around it.

Great Faith Looks Extreme to Others

Every great move of faith looked extreme to somebody. We see this in the Old Testament with God’s people.

And in the New Testament, we see Jesus, the disciples, apostles, and others “rocking the boat” with religious leaders who wanted everyone to only think and act as them.

When People Say I Take Jesus Too Far

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation. By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.” Hebrews 11:1-3 (ESV)

All the people in the Hall of Faith in Hebrews 11 and others in the Bible were seen as taking their faith too far.

Noah looked crazy building the ark. David looked foolish facing Goliath. The disciples looked reckless leaving everything behind. Even today, passion for God remains misunderstood by people who don’t share it.

Don’t we go “too far” for everything else?

People obsess over careers, sports, money, fitness, looks, and relationships. Society celebrates obsession when it produces worldly success. But deep devotion to Jesus suddenly becomes extreme.

Take Jesus Too Far Or Faithful Servants?

Jesus isn’t an accessory to life. Instead, He becomes the center of life. Our life.

Let’s ask ourselves: Do we ever shrink back because we fear criticism? Or, do we care more about appearing balanced than surrendered?

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.” Romans 1:16 (ESV)

Beause the goal isn’t approval, it’s faithfulness. If your faith never challenges culture, it may be blending into it. Bold faith stands out. And sometimes criticism is confirmation—a sign you’re doing something with great and bold faith. This kind of faith ruffles feathers.

Remember, Jesus never promised popularity. He promised purpose, peace, and eternal life.

“Stand firm in the faith.” 1 Corinthians 16:13b (ESV)

When People Say I Take Jesus Too Far

It’s an Affirmation

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2 (ESV)

If people say you take this “Jesus thing” too far, thank them.

Continue loving Jesus openly and wholeheartedly.

You can take religion too far.

And you can take legalism too far.

But you cannot love Jesus too deeply, trust Him too much, obey Him too fully, or follow Him too close.

You are absolutely correct in this post, Karen. We can take religion and legalism too far, but we must never apologize for our love and commitment to Jesus. Let’s shine His light and love brightly for all the world to see. Blessings!

I love the way you and Mike talk about God He is our life and so many people put God on the back burner until they need Him . He is my life I would be nothing without Him. Praying for you and Mike.
